CV or Ball Joints

Post by chugga »

Can any one describe what are the signs of worn ball joints and worn CVs? Thanks

A very quick summary...

Ball joints - most obvious sign is a sloppy and vague steering ( above and beyond the norm for off road tyres ).

Worn CV's ( particularly the outers ) will generate a "tick tick" noise when you drive in a circle ( full lock ) related to wheel speed.

Of course there's other possible explanations so I'd be looking harder but that's a start.
( usual disclaimers )

It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.
