Wouldn'tch'ya know it! I go to get the Wrangler (TJ '99) rego-checked after sorting out the O2 sensor problem (amongst a couple of other minor things), and after giving it a few very successful and promising test runs over the last month, he dies the day before delivery =( Couldn't wait until AFTER such is life
He power's on fine, but not cranking. Starter isn't even clicking so I'm guessing seized (it was drowned, if 4 months ago) if not something else. No error's on the console after the turn-on/hold-speedo dealio. Tested 3 differant rated batteries with no change (what's the battery charge supposed to be before cranking?) Also, I forgot if the oil pressure gauge is supposed to report before or after cranking but it's sitting at zilch, ja.
And just saw Wooder's site. It's very nice and clean to navigate. But few item's loaded there so far? I might need a new starter
Thanks for any help.

If it's been drowned recently .. it could damn near be anything ..
Starter sounds like a sensible place to start.
Jeep Recyclers out of hervey bay is an option for a second hand starter to test ? or perhaps you could hit up
www.ausjeepoffroad.com someone on there might have a starter you could fault test with.

stiiixy, no offence taken about our site - populating the site is just a big ongoing task. So far we have anout 800 products on there but the total of available parts is about 140,000, so it might take a while since most days there's only me
Happy to be contacted offline if we can help.

@Chester: Thanksf or the advice mate. I'll give it a go. Any advice on cleaning it enough to get it to a shop?
@Wooders. I feel your pain
Do you have a list of the hardware you have mate? You'll likely have\can get a digital copy of the parts list from each supplier. If so I can possibly scrounge up an import utility that can mass-upload your item's with piccies and descriptions for you and some tools to keep the prices updated, specials etc. A lot of that depends on the shopping cart you're using on the back-end.

Could it possibly be the key? The car just isn't doing anything mechanical, no noises except the usual beeping as you get in the car, the console is fine and reporting no errors, and reporting errors fine when I disconnect bits'n'pieces. Does the key use a battery to send a signal or is my model just using a gold old shaped key?

Transponder key problem?
Is the key in good condition?
Any other singal/electrical interferance?

Does your key look like
?
Thats a transponder key. Since yours is a 99 I think it's right about when they started bring them in.
Could also be a relay or solenoid.
On older model cards you used to be able to short the starter straight to the battery to test the motor .. not sure if it's possible on newer cars though.

Well, I'm away for the weekend so I wont be able to test these things out =( Tired of loosing these things for other people instead of wasting them on my car!
@Chester; Yeah mate I have that key. It may have been knocked around a bit in my Woolies Green Man-Purse with my portable hard-drives, screw-drivers etc so I can't discount that. I'll have to hunt for the solenoid. Never really thought about that bit before so outta mind, outta sight

How do I check for this? I'm assuming you don't mean bare wires that are crossing? And at teh expense of repeating myself, the oil pressure indicator gauge isn't showing anything (teastred working though) when I attempt a crank, and the battery charge is sitting at about 10. These don't seem right. Not enough power for the computer to let the car start? Which points back possibly to solenoids etc? I'm talking outta my arse here. Pure conjecture, see.
I also have absoloutely nothing in the way of testing tools. Anything I should get high prioroty? Analogue voltmeter etc?

Turns out the solenoid was seized. Just about rooted. Turning over now apparently, but still failed rego (bloody cracked exhaust, sif Wrangler's pollute. They shit white!). Thanks for the help guys.
How much does a set of extractor's cost? I was quoted once $500 from Hammond in Qld.

No idea what current pricing is but do some research on what brand they are selling... there are some which drop down below the level of the sump, some which go under the sump (how dumb), and other which stay up nice and high. Hurricane is one of the brands which people say fit well up out of the way.
Welding is an option but commonly fails again. I don't know what year model your TJ is but 2000 onwards are less prone to cracking. Maybe try a wrecker.
