Ive just brought some rubber flares for my sierra. Am wondering hat the best way is to fit them: Tec screws, Rivets, Nuts and bolts, contact adhesive.

Tec screws seem the most obviouse way but has anyone had any trouble with them rattling loose.

any thoughts?

i used screws and have had no probs

Half my car is held together with hex head self tappers.

With an 8mm socket on the end of a drill everything comes apart quickly and easily.

i recently fitted some flares (garden edging) with button head self tappers and an aluminium strip screwed between the screws and flare material. this helps decrease the chances of the screws pulling through the flare material

tek screws for sure..but use small washers aswell,as it spreads the rubber more evenly(you will see what i mean) dont be too trigger happy on the battery drill either,you just want it snug,too tight and it distorts the rubber.i used about 12 per wheel..
after fitting complete,paint with black rust kill on both the rubber side and up above the lip where the screws come thru,this will both stop it from rusting,and gum up the threads of the screws to stop them ratteling loose

Also use needle point, button head screws save the drill points for thicker material, the drill tip of the drill pointed screw removes a lot of material compared to the needle point that simply displaces it, it is this material that the thread of the screw "bites" into and holds tight.

i used rivets on 1 of mine and it took forever than the others i used tec screws and its heaps quicker and easier also it helps if there is 2 of you one to hold the flare up against the car and the other to screw in the tec screws

Thanks for the advice guys. I just fitted them with phillips head tec screws and a small washer on each. Seems to work well.

i thoughts id do mine all nice and neat with bling screws and nuts on the top side what a pain and long job it was getting spanners up into the little lip of the flare in spots oh well next time hey

i am a little surprised to i thought they wold have tried to vibrate loose by now tho

just fitted set of wrangler flares to my zook with silicon(black) and a couple of screws just to hold it ther till it went off.just used lots of silicone and pressed it down really hard till it oozed out the edges, then wiped it off the excess with a rag and detergent and water so it still looked neat. only good though if its applied over larger surface areas and if u dont plan on taking them of in a hurry.

I fitted garden edging to the many holes used to fasten the NT flares to the body. It is not a very good way of doing though, as its too much strain for the little lip the holes are in and combined with the power of rust, its ripping em off.
