Hey,
I got a 05 subaru forester NA and got an annoying noise coming from where i have pinpointed it so far down to the tin covers over the exhaust.
what are these for? and ok to take em off? i would say so yes as any aftermarket exhaust does not have them on.

its a heatsheild.
it may be protecting wireing of hoses.
but mostly it is to shop exhaust heat heating up the floor of the car.

I would leave them where they are, they reflect and carry to areas it can be safley disapated an amazing amount of heat.
It should not be to hard to recitify the issue instead of just ditching the heat sheilds.

roito i will have a look.
borrowing some car ramps this weekend.
its only a cover about 200mm long covering the collector where the pipes converge, i will have a double check whats above it also for wiring/hoses.

Hit it with a hammer till it stops making noise - shouldn't take much.

Yep, i did the same. I checked over for loose bolts/nuts and washers too.
All fixed.

The Forester has a bad habit of cooking the CV joint rubber boot with the heat from the exhaust. I'd be very careful about removing heat shields - they are there for a reason!!
