Petrol diffs in a deisel lux ratio

I am thinking of getting the lower diff ratios ( from a petrol lux) in my ln106r. Will it still drivable on the highway with 33's on. What is the highway rpm @ 100kmh.

It will be a lsd upfront and a air locker in the rear too, any comments?

so you would be changing from 4.33 (diesel) to 4.88 (petrol).

I.E the engine will rev 1.13 times what it revs normally. so if you normally do 2600 revs at 100kmh you would do 2930 with the petrol diffs.

but you will reduce the gearing by 6.5% by fitting 33's instead of 31's.

so 1.13 - 0.065 = 1.065 or a 6.5% overall increase once tyres and diffs are considered.

so back to the other analogy if you used to rev 2600 rpm you will now rev 2770 rpm.

It should work ok but you will be reving a little higher.

With 33's I'd recommend some 4.5's, 4.88's in mine with 35's is perfect.

correct 35's is a 13% increase = to the change from 4.3 to 4.88. so yeah 4.5's would be ideal. which models did they come out of?

Would 4.88's be too low for 33's, and im im geussing you cant go back to 31's once youve done the conversion?

Its just that the reason im looking at new diffs is because there available at a good price, brand new and have a lsd upfront and a air locker in the rear. i dont have a choice on ratios, he says there from a petrol lux so im geaussing they are 4.88's.

He put them in a 1985 2.4d hilux, with 34 trkkers on he could not get to 100 on the flat. Dont know what year model the diffs are. Im pretty sure gen 2 diffs will fit a gen 3 hilux.

I pulled my lockers out of a '82? 18r or 22r lux,they had 4.5's

4.8's in my diesel made the spedo alot closer with 33's on. Worked great for towing. I was very happy with the change.

a mate had put 4.8s in his 2.8 hilux and went 35s,loved it but then when he went back to 33s he complained of it revving too high and getting no where?? whereas another mate said his 4.5s were spot on with the 33s and it drove like stock again,i think the 4.56s are from some surfs and ifs lues maybe?

4.88s with 31's on would be pretty much like driving in 4th gear instead of 5th now. so doable but a bit noisy. better to stick to 33's if you want to make the change.

Depend s on what your doin with it if you go offroad go the 4.88 if it's mainly highway go the 4.55. But always remember your tyres are never big enough. I started with 33's and said they are massive then put 35's on and said i'll never go any bigger now i'm gonna get rid of my 37's maybe for a set of 38's!!!! It never ends once the bug has biten!
