just looking for peoples opinions on a good tyre for mud & rock

i've found a set of 36" simex ET2's for sale. i'm assuming they're ideally suited for mud but would they be any good for rock as well? also what are the JT2's like?

other tyres i'm interested in are the maxxis creepy's or trepadores.

if it makes any difference the vehicle they're for is a GQ wagon with 5" lift and am looking for something around the 37" diametre.

The Simexs are a really good mud tyre, but rocks are not their forte.

I'd be looking at the Maxxis pair and the bias claw.

i run the 37s in a creepy and rate them for all the driving ive done,

i didn't think the iroks would be that good in mud? they look like more of a rock tyre


i'm kinda leaning towards the maxxis now. are the creepy's the way to go over the trepadores?

i say creepy's were the best time i have owned and i have tryed plenty.

Simexs are really bad on rocks, I had them and MTRs, 35et2 simex for mud, ruts and gravel and mtrs for rocks and road. As for a rock tire im still in 2 minds as what was better my 37mtr or my later 39 irocks.
Never driven on the 36 simex but it looks like they have to many center lugs for a mud tire.
Thats about all i can tell u as there the only tires i have run.

the only thing i dont rate about the mtrs is the the side slope traction in mud they just dont have any at all, but apart from that they are a good all round tyre and have awsome road handling

Horses for courses. From what I've run and seen mates run, the 37 sticky Trepadors are leading for rock, Simex work great in the mud (only 2 lugs centre 35x11.5) seem good on rock,but all round I love my Swampers, they seem abit better than the Centipede on rock but outgunned in the mud. The JT2's are ok on rock I find they howl for grip on rock compared to other tyres They throw the mud well, but only up to 34" Creepy's seem to dig well in dirt but extremely stiff blocky tread hinder them abit I reckon

what about krawlers ? there good in both

Yeah but your Trepadores are stickies. Sticky Creepies would out perform Boggers too.

IMO the MT/Rs and Iroks are nowhere near as good as Creepies. But the MT/R is superior to them all for on road use.

I'm not 100% convinced a Krawler is a great mud tyre.

They seem to pack up and take a LOT of wheespeed to clean.

Thet certainly are ace on rock though.

Any actual swamper really, ( Including LTB and SX if you're heavy enough)

I don't have any experience with IROK's in trail conditions, but the seem to work fairly well on rock from what I've seen in competition.

One of the problems with a lot of the newer tyres I can see is that they're all 12.5 (or more) wide. On a lighter car that makes for crap ground pressure and works against performance in mud. Partly because of this, swampers are preferable because you can get the right size for your car to get the ground pressure right.

Case in point - on our suzuki's we can run a 34" tyre at 9" wide or 10.5" wide, and a 35 at 10.5 wide on swampers. If we go to a creepy, BFG Krawler or something, we're at 12.5 wide which brings the suck in mud.

As we're running trail cars that aren't one dimensional, we might do rock and mud in the same trip.

depending on what size you want/availablity, you may have to wait a while for swampers. i ordered mine over 5 months ago and they still havent arrived

looks like i might keep my eye out for a s/h set of either creepies, trepadores or super swamper/iroks.

another thing to look at might be how long they last, simex are a great comp tyre but a gumnut could cut them to shreads you would never get the whole life out of them.

I don't think simex's are much different to anything else - in hard use, they'll wear quick.

My off road tyres will always end up cut up/rounded off/lost lugs etc well before the tread depth wear is an issue - so I don't really know what you mean by "full life"

these tyres are at there best when they are new with lots of tread, if you use a mtr and it gets down to 40% you could still use it as a daily driver, a simex through my experience only will be cut and rooted by the time its 40%.
I know these tyres are not meant to be daily drivers but when your not rich enough to have 2 sets its something to think about.
