Outer Limits 4x4 Board

G'day guys,

like most GQ owners i follow all the over heating threads...

i have decided that the cooling systems used to work fine when new - or they would have been recalled, so age is a major player.

i have replaced the clutch and fan and the thermostat.

Now looking at doing the water pump and radiator.

With the radiator i would like the best bang for my buck....

and i saw these

Has anyone used one?

Also with it being listed as manual only (i have an auto) im assuming it is only because i have my tranmission fluid running through the bottom of my radiator (i havent looked )
is there any reason why i cant just fit an extrenal oil cooler on the front and run the lines to that??? no pumps required??

yeah bought one but not through ebay .got to watch out the lugs on the bottom of the radiator are welded on the wrong side and need to be cut off and re tigged back on but on the new side . need to run your fan cover with out this crawling through the bush it gets hot . besides all this bang for buck its not too bad

so you have one of these actual radiators?
where did you get yours from?

there was another thread on patrol forum bout the alloy rads being too thick, as in you cant run the fan, or it hits the rad... you had to bodge on other fans.



EDIT: coming from HongKong,shanghai, China, what do you do if it is stuffed when it arrives? Cost $90 each way each time to ship bak and forward.

You can bypass the radiator with an external cooler (no extra pump required)just make sure it's big cooler, but usually nissan's cool beter running through the radiator also, just be careful also sometimes they weld metric fittings in the radiator and this can be hard to get fitting to suit.

Yep the auto trans fluid goes through both tanks on the radiator. i.e. there is 4 barbs sticking out of the radiator.
As suggested if you get a manual radiator you can mount a seperate oil cooler in the front. Early Magnas and EA or similar Falcons used to run these as factory and can be bought cheaply and have screw in fittings. Also you can buy essentially the same thing new from Repco etc..

I just had my Radiator re-cored $360 was apparently the good price .. which stopped the fluid magically dissapearing over time without any signs at all, but was still running hot 3/4 on a hot day with plenty of air flow( not stuck in traffic). Have now replaced the thermostat with a new one (the old one was stuck open, or partially open), and now on the previously hot hot days with the a/c on it was sitting between 1/2 and 3/4 on the gauge which I am happy with. On a normal day it will sit just below 1/2.
I have also added a bleeder on the top water hose (highest point) that goes to my LPG mixer which also lets out some air when filling the system....

I just fitted a triple core to the Mav' ($600), but stopped any and all overheating.

ALWAYS make sure you do the basics (reverse flush radiator AND engine; replace thermostat; replace coolant)

If the cooling problems persist, check replace the viscous fluid in the fan and add 500mls of CONCENTRATED coolant.

I honestly don't see the need for aluminium radiators for non-comp cars.

With the tranny cooler, get a big one and it will be fine.
