Hilux Diff - replacement?

Hello,

I have a 1995 Hilux and the rear diff has starting make an unhealthy "howling" noise when under load. The noise is most noticeable in 3rd gear and above (probably due to engine noise in the first two gears). When coasting along there is no noise, the moment load is applied to the driveline it starts again. The noise gets worse the faster you go... Interestingly at 95kmph it seems to go away slightly then come back with a vengence.

My guess is that the ring and pinion is stuffed. Checked the oil and it is full of metal particles. There is also oil starting to leak from the front of the diff where the drive shaft attaches (vibrations?? causing oil to leak?).

Was hoping for some advice on the following:
1. Good place in Brisbane to have the diff looked at and repaired.
2. If the diff needs to be overhauled - are there better choices for a replacement diff on the Hilux (something stronger?)
3. If the ring and pinion need to be replaced - is it worth using the stock replacement parts or go for the aftermarket sets (i.e. from loctup4x4)?
4. How hard is it to attach a new diff centre? Is it as simple as bolting it all in? Or do you need to balance/align everything?

Depending on cost also looking to fit a locker at the same time as the diff is apart (well that is my excuse) :)

Apologies for the newbie questions...

remove your tailshaft, and make sure your pinion nut is tight.

sounds like the pinion is moving more than it needs too.
