Hey people,............ info needed.

Took my POS out to Ormeau this arvo and after doin carnage canyon and just getting the hang of the ride and shit, the front diff (i though it was a CV) started to clunk loudly when turning.
I thought shit there goes a cv as the whole wheel would shudder each and everyclunk and I was getting a fair bit of feedback in the steering wheel.
The main reason i was thinking a CV was cause it was only while i was turning.
After about 100 meters I stoped and we discussed my options, In the end we decided I would limp it to the exit and think more from there.

After doin about a 6point turn clicking and clunkin away, we heeaded back home....... went down a little hill and had to turn was turning slowly and steady, waiting for the clunk that rattles the bones but................................. :? No clunk :?

Several more corners later..................NO CLUNKS all seems normal ? ? ?
Up one of the gunshot hills at the creek and Drive to all wheels as per usuall and still no clunk ? ? ?
Out to the exit and back into high range (after deciding to drive it home and see how it goes) and all the way to the servo and home NO CLUNKS............full uturn no clunks ? ? ?

 :? WHAT COULD IT BE if it is a CV why did it stop ? ? ? any help or suggestions ? ? ?

Cheers
Anthony

could be becuase you drove on a busted cv or diff
it is now completly farked with no usable parts...
why did you not stop to check what was making the noise...
jack it up...put front axle on stands and rotate wheels...listening for noises...
pull the hub off and you will soon see what has happened.

I dare say it could either be a Blown CV or a tooth missing of the crown wheel!

Only one way to find out! :)

With a rover housing you can actually see if the CV bell is cracked without even removing the wheel. Take out the oil fill bung for the CV and turn the wheel full lock so you can see inside the bell and slowly drive forward looking down through the hole. You will see cracks easy as if it is cracked.

Thanks for the info guys......................
Looks like I will be pulling the POS apart hopefully this arvo. If it is anything but the CW&P I will probably look at upgrading the axles and CVs and carrier to maxidrive (the everything but locker option). The only reason I dont want the lockers in just yet is the fact that I have the Borg Warner transfer case and apparently its not very good with them at all :? .

I hope its just a CV :? and deffinately hope its not the CW&P althought its probably farked aswell

Ultra Blue seems to work go

Only way to lerarn more about your POS is to rip it apart and see for yourself.

You don't have to be a A-Grade mechanic. Always keep the beer cold because you'll need it (an important tool in Rangie repairs. Helps calm the mind before you throw spanners like a mental case!!!!!)

Good luck and have fun.
