Optimal rim width for tyre bagging

Post by Stubby »

What effect does the width of the rim have on the tyres ability to bag?

Does a narrower rim (say, 8in) encourage more bagging cause of the tyre bulging or does a 10in wide rim let the side wall work better?

Maybe there's no advantage to either - any theories?

I got 33in MTRs on 15x8 rims under a 47 Series Cruiser Ute but I'm asking the question in general with the "what next?" question in mind (thinking 35 - 37in MTRs).

Is there any advantage in getting 10in over 8in wide rims for 12.5in wide tyres?

12.5's bag better on 8's than 10's because of the diffrence in withs, but also with a 10 inch rim you have alot more risk of beading the tyre

I had 33's and 35's on my 15x8's and had them as low as 10psi without beadlocks without a drama on a MQ... I doubt you will have any either

If you are going to stick to a 12.5 tyre, then stay with an 8" rim. I run my 38x12.5 TSLs at 6psi (no beadlocks) and they bag nicely. 35 BGFs previously on the same 15x8 were just as good.

As MQ080 said, there is a greater risk of rolling a bead on a 10" rim with 12.5" tyres.
