One way valve

I just got an A/C compressor and air tank today to fit to my hilux, do i need a one way valve between them. And whats the best pressure switch to use, ARB or other

What sort of compressor.
With an ARB or similar no.
With an aircon (endless air type) then yes. Two reasons, this type leaks back and 2ndly no head pressure makes them start easier.

Thanks Bazzle. I didn't think about a valve when I got the tank so I'll get 1 when I get the hoses orginised.Fitted compressor today (A/C type). Not much room under bonnet with tubo and intercooler hoses , ended up under power steering pump and tank (about 6 litre) on gearbox crossmember

What you need is a non return or check valve, try a compressor repair place or SMC, Master Mac or Festo who are wholesalers of pneumatic components.
You could use an unloading pressure switch mounted after the check valve, it has an extra port on it that will open when pressure is reached, you plumb this port back to a "T" piece before the check valve and it will dump all the pressure off the compressor so it starts easily.
Some auto stores & big hardware stores might sell pressure switches, no sure what ARB wants but the normal compressor type is between $50-$100 and is setting adjustable, though you may find the ARB is non adjustable but is 1/5th the size.

I think I'll try the pressure switch out of my ARB comp and see how it goes.
Freinds have bought a240 volt comp from supercheap for $95 and thrown motor and compressor away and used tank with pressure switch, dump valve ,pressure gauge and regulater all in one. good if you've got room for it.

Just fitted all the hoses today and the ARB pressure switch works fine.
Will have to buy another one now to replace the one out of ARB comp and wire up relay and on off switch and all will be finished.

Hi
I run an endless air type piston air cond pump with a check valve before the fire extinguished receiver. Works good, can have 100 psi there all week from a single charge.
Dont buy an ARB switch, but get an industrial adjustable one, $40 from a building air cond retailer.

Already bought arb switch Andrew. Works fine and only $32, cheap I thought.

Hi I also have one of these before the check valve set at about 120 psi, should anything go wrong,with the system, these are a good idea. They blow off pressure (over the set point) to atmosphere.

The relief valve is a standed air compressor job that is set at 150psi, it's non adjustable but it blows off well before hoses or anything else blows.
The tank already had a drain valve in it so I left it there as well.

I was thinking about getting a one way valve the other day.
Do I need one for the setup below??
I have the big red pumping into the tank,
and its power going through a 100psi cut-off valve.
when it cuts off the power at 100 psi, the compressor is holding
the pressure in the tank. This can't be good long term can it?
sometimes when I let off the valve with the red handle after
using it for a days wheeling, I can hear the compressor sort of
turn over when the last bit of air comes out.
Should I get a one way valve to take pressure off the compressor
seals etc?

A non return valve can't hurt. My tank holds pressure for well over 2 weeks.

Yeah pics would be nice to compare.
2 weeks is good, this is what I want to be able to acheive.
I can't see/hear any air leaking, but its coming out somewhere
cause the comp cycles every 10 mins or so.
I was wanting a 1-way valve for a while now, just can't
find one anywhere (and beleive me I have asked around)
I will try this SMC, Master Mac and Festo places.
I'll have to search on yellow pages to find where they are in Syd.
on a side note,
Will they sell the blue piping so I can run new air lines front and
back at the above places?
