this is my first car and it's a 1997 coil sprung sierra. lately i have been having problems with the speedo where the needle shakes when speeding up and slowing down. i was wondering if anyone knew how to take the speedo out as we are going to drop it down and have it looked at.

any help is greatly appreciated :)

Check the cable, it may be crushed, kinked or dry.

Cable first.

If that doesn't fix it, it is possible that the speedo mechanism is dodgy - I put a new cable in my 1.0 and it was still jumpy.

Depending where abouts in Sydney you are, there is a place called General Auto Instruments in Lidcombe, that build cables and repair speedo's. Their work is very good, but their people skills not so good as the holes in the wall by irate customers attest to.
