Are you talking about the wheel bearings or the freewheeling hubs?

use the engine oil to lube up the lock ring (the ring that slides in the Hub)

I prefer a thin smear of a dry lubricant as it does not seem to clag up as much

Undo the bolts or nuts holding on the freewheeling hub.
Smear minimal grease on the splined bit.
Put 1/2 a dozen drops of oil on the back of the locking ring and the slider.
