Im pretty new to 4x4 so not sure what to do...i have a 80 series GXL. There seems to be oil coming out of the end of my hub im pretty sure. I noticed it buy oil leaking out through my wheel nuts, while im driving. Its not much but enough to make my wheel look dirty. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem. Im just not sure if i can take the end of the hub off or not and if oil will flow out if i do. Im guessing i just have to replace the seal there but do i have to drain the diff out first?

thanks! also 4x4 trip on sunday15th feb meeting at rustic cabin at 10 if anyone is keen...

sounds like the inner axel seal which has the job of stopping the oil in your diff entering your hub is stuffed.

hubs only have grease in them normally so the oil has to come from the diff.

it will get worse and messyer so get onto it soon. diy in a day probably $150 all up inc bearings and grease max.- do your wheel bearings at the same time while its all apart.

best bet to do both sides at the same time.

or pay a shop probably 500 - 800 to do it.

You can leave the oil in, but jack that side of the diff up to make the oil sit on the other side of the diff.

Or just drain it out.
