I can't see the problem with it.............as long as it has no sharp produruding edges.......it looks fairly pedestrian friendly.

If you did hit a pedestrian, they would be thrown clear from the vehicle and reduce the risk of the vehicle running them over !

LJEXTREME has one here in Victoria........no problems that I've heard of.
Give Grimbo a PM, as I think he was wanting to do that to his POS

I actually think they would have issues with it on pedistrian safety, they would go straight under! So thats 1 + for it...

is there any laws on length of bar away from chassis in length??

Um actaully a big no, no here in Vic and most other states (leagaly).

Ruling is basiclly that nothing should proturde past the natural line of the shape of the vechile.

But hey if you don't get picked up half ya luck. ;)

I questioned my engineer about this here in Queensland. He wasn't sure of a specific ruling only that it cannot restrict vision and must not have any sharp protuding edges. He also checked with Queensland Transport but they couldn't give him a maximum height (I thought it might have been leading edge of bonnet) only a max forward protusion from centre of front wheels of 1.2m. There was no problem with it facing down.

He then faxed Canberra where the ADRs are written to ask them. Unfortunately they didn't reply. This was over 3 months ago. So he said to just go ahead.......And I did!

I don't have any pics but maybe someone can snap one at QROCK this weekend and post it up for you. It's basically similar to Adrians but less dinted :D

For NSW check out this pdf from the RTA site.
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vib05.pdf

Looks like it *could* be OK, as according to the above document standards for bars are yet to be written.

If they dont like the look of you then they would probably sting you here though:
“An object fitted to a vehicle must be designed, built and fitted to the vehicle in such a way that minimises the likelihood of injury to a person making contact with the vehicle”
Maybe you could put some rollbar padding on it :)

Plus they also say that it should not block your view of the road

LjExtreme hasn't been pinged for his and he was pulled over for tyres outside the guards etc. Whatever you do make sure there are no sharp edges, it doesn't block your vision or your headlights.

looks like all they are concerned about are rod holders/cb mounts and any thing sharp...

you would have to be one poor son of a if you got pulled up and inspected, and the copper would have to be a prick..

i spoke to my sisters b'friend (he is a copper) and he said that he would not even bother checking a 4by for shit like this.... more interested in chasing the little rice boys and there boom boom stereo's....

i got done with an old school bullbar on my 45 in vic. the ruling was that the topmost point of the bar cannot protrude (spelling?) out further than the rest of the bar. in other words the furthest forward point of the bar cannot be at the top.

I used to drive a lot in Queensland and Northern NSW. I found (on the few occasions  ) that NSW officers were arrogant, aggressive, nasty pieces of work. In Queensland they were almost apologetic for pulling me over ("sorry, sir, just doing my job" type of attitude.)

And I never give them a hard time - an officer of the law can always have the last word.

Protrusions

Try this exerpt from the ADR's. ADR 42.03/12 tells you all about protrusions.

You could also trying calling up DOTARS for a chat - let them know exactly what you want to do and they can tell you if it will not meet certain ADRs, and which ones they are.

I'm currently working with DOTARS and VICROADS to get some documentation provided to me concerning vehicle roadworthy requirements - i can't see why this would be any different (assuming it meets ADRs).

Cheers

When viewing the document, you could do a bit of ALT-Printscreen and then paste that into a JPG and post up the JPG...?

Otherwise i'm thinking you could pass it on using real email

upon speaking to engineer about my bullbar, tilts slightly forward, he said all new bars had to be made so that the pedestrian would be thrown onto the bonnet, so all new bars had to be tilted back,

when i told him with the height of the car about chest height, sure it matters, and his answer was, YES IT DOES, so i dare to even think there may be a possibility that anyone would pass it.

Does a bullbar have to be securly bolted on with reinforcing bars in four different spots or can it be held on by two bolts this would mean no towing. Im asking because i did a 2in body lift and now the bar is in the way of the lights. i just need to move it up 2in its got holes where to put the bolts but i would have to cut the angle iron that attaches to the chassis. Might be able to weld new mounts on?
