I have had a normal aircon compressor on my truck for a wile and am thinking of changeing to a sump style compressor . I have two either an old yourk or the one in the picture the question is will they work if set up laying on there side and will they pump as much air ?

would prob be ok up to maybe 40 degrees tilt either way, but it might be bad to run it fully sideways. I'd rig it up on a test bench and run it sideways and see how it goes. I think if you run it on its side you'll get too much oil spewing out.

Don`t hold me to it but I think in either XE`s or older V8 fairlanes they might be layed over on there side, have a look at some older fords. It might be a different compressor that I am thinking of but.

Use the Jap one(Toyoda) they are smaller and pump more than enough air. Laying them on their side is no problem. First you need to remove the head and modify it slightly inside. When you remove the head you will see a chamber either side of the pistons. On one side you will notice a very small hole you need to put a screw in this hole to block it otherwise it will suck all the oil out of the sump and fill your tyres with it and then seize the pump. This mod needs to be done to all York or Toyoda pumps reguardless wich way they are mounted.

And for once Guts is right early V8 fords ran a york on its side. But i think i may have told him this a long time ago ;)

This is the jap one you have its from an 18R hilux engine. Its made by TOYODA not Toyota. I use this to air up and also run my Airlockers and if i added a larger tank it would run air tools.
