Newbie Diff Question

Ok so not long ago got a 91 Mav
Being that i don't know anything about diffs thought i would see if there were some people on here that could help me out.
Whats with the oil stain comming out of the back of the rear diff (around the plug) do i need to fix that - have noticed it on a lot of 4x4s
Also do i need to grease the diff / bearings somewhere after going through water - if so where?
last one, how often should i change the diff oil.
The guy i got the rig from said that he hasn't extended the diff breathers. I think i know what he is talking about there - going to use a fuel filter and put it up in the engine bay but any advise on that would be great also.

You "may" need to grease the front wheel bearings and cv's.
Drive shaft unis and ball joints.

Check diff oil thru fill plug, if transparent then should be ok.
Oil stain is normal. If it bothers you use teflon paste on threads.

You can also change all the oils as insurance if your not sure of their history.

also top up headlight fluid and check muffler bearings!

and always carry a couple of buckets of compressed air to fix your flat tyres out in the bush. Most larger hardware stores sell buckets of compressed air...... :D

You may also need a long weight, you can pick this up at any building site for nuffin :armsup:

But at the post office they are usuall expensive.

As for the MAV. There is grease nipples on everything that you can easily get the grease gun onto. Drive-shaft's, steering linkages etc.

CV's and wheel bearings you will need to pull it apart (but you can check the condition of the grease in swival hub - undo 1 bolt under hosing and put a screwdriver or other prob in there to check)
