Carby backfire on ignition off?

Hey all- when the engine is on the warmer side and i park and switch off the motor, of late i've had the carby sputter away a little before "stalling" out... sometimes it almost sounds like a mini backfire up the carby with a turn of the engine and a "psshhh" from the carby.
I've tried a quick rev before switching off, or letting it idle for up to 10 secs before switching off and i get the same result, although a quick rev seems to prolong the sputtering.
engine setup: weber 32/36 on vit 1.6 8v (manual choke).
Any thoughts here? doesnt seem to have any issues otherwise, power is great and economy hasnt changed (although id like it to be better, lol).

yeah i thought pinging but theres no other symptoms of it... might be time to get it professionally tuned though, its been about 3-4 years since it was tuned properly.

running on and backfiring thru the carb is pre-ignition as said above mate. Check your timing and also try some higer octane fuel too that can also help..

try running a standard plug, mine had a 5 plug and i was getting a run on with the timing perfect, changed to a 6 plug as recommended and is now fixed.

yeah i vote for running colder plugs or putting new ones in. what happens is the sparkplugs can overheat and stay glowing because they are either caked with carbon or the wrong temp rating. then they basically act like glowplugs and will keep the engine going as long as you have fuel and they stay warm.

the problem with those crappy webers is they don't have a fuel cut solenoid. without one of these the engine can deisel and or backfire.

its actually a combo of things - one - the float is heavy, two - it needs a rebuilt kit - everythings gone sloppy, so the butterfly bits are staying just slightly open now and then allowing fuel/air through... three - gaskets are pretty swollen up which wont be helping things in the flow department.

The problem with a webber is its not fuel injection
