GU 3.0 Idler Problem Ideas

Mate has had 5 hydraulic idler tension rams failing, causing the belt to slip excessively, and then break.
Even tho it's an 02, Nissan have accepted it as a fault and replaced it under free (except the first two as went to non-Nissan mechanic), $500+ each time
Any ideas??? Annoying as makes car quite unreliable
Today found the waterpump had a very slight amount of movement in it - could that cause the strain that's making the tensioner fail???
