Road Worthy GU patrol Ute

Guys,

Does anyone know a place on the south side of Brisbane that will give a road worthy.

I have taken my GU patrol to an unnamed mechanic and I have been knocked back for a road worthy for the reasons

1 - Light over the rear plate is blown
2 - steering wheel plastic rolls for about 100mm when twisted
3 - I have been told by DOT that the exhaust can finish 40mm past the last opening window of the car, mine is about 300-400 past the back of the cab. I have been told its not road worthy.

Can anyone post help or PM me re this.

cheers

Aidan

well ring dot and ask them for clarification to be faxed to the guy, afaik you are correct with the zaust thing, that it is allowed to be x mm from the last opening on the cab

replace the globe, inject glue into the steering wheel, and take it to another mechanic. the exhaust thing if he doesnt wanna do it he wont. last thing he needs is some know it all telling him his job!
no matter what you show him if he sais he wont pass it he wont.

someone having to spend 100 bux on getting a pipe made in his mind isnt worth him loosing his roady licence.

roady laws arnt always black and white and it comes down to the mechanics interpretation.

all u can do is try but i would think it easier to spend your money elsewhere

hoiw do you interperate 40mm and 400mm to be the same?

but agree with going elsewhere unless you want to prove a point.

40mm ain't much - you sure that's right?

When i did my MK exhaust, it had to be a MINIMUM of 300mm clear of the nearest opening of the vehicle cabin.

I dont think 40mm is right....

This is the DOT minor modifications booklet, please tell me if I am reading it wrong, but the way I interperate the section on exhausts is, it only have to be 40mm past the furtherest part of the sealed cab.

The exhaust outlet must extend at least 40mm beyond
the furthermost outboard or rearmost joint of the floor
pan that is not continuously welded or permanently
sealed which could permit direct access of exhaust
gases to the passenger compartment, but not beyond
the perimeter of the vehicle when viewed in plan.
• The exhaust outlet, if to the side of the vehicle, must
discharge to the right hand side of
the vehicle and downwards at an
angle to the horizontal of not less
than 15 degrees and not more than
45 degrees.
• The exhaust outlet, if to the rear of
the vehicle, must discharge at not
more than 10 degrees above or 45
degrees below the horizontal.
• All exhaust and muffler systems
must be free of any leaks or
mechanical faults and should
be adequately supported.

am i missreading the point of the minor modifications? is the floor pan the cab of the ute?

just buy 400mm of exhaust, and slide it on whats already there.

the problem is every mechanic I have spoken to is telling me that the exhaust has to run to the rear of the car, which means running a new exhaust.
im trying to sell it and i dont want to spend the cash on it

so go to Qld Roads, get them to print it out on their letter head

Then again, if your telling all these places your going for a roady, that your selling the truck, they will be harsher on it over if its just a yearly thing.

Doesnt matter if you are, sadly your not passing it :(
its crap, but thats how it is.
check ebay see if theres a used one on there, or check with a 4b or exhaust place
surely there must be some layin round that have gone up to 3inch systems...

its got nothing to do with lengths.
his not passing it because he believes that for it to be rwc it needs to exit out the back or take the original path that nissan made it.
his takeing the safer then sorry path.

in reality most dont have a clue on half of the things you can modify and still be legal and side exiting exhausts is going to be one of those things for ever.

EASY. The next place you take it to, dont tell them you're selling it!! As bogged said, they'll be harsh if you're selling the car, but if you're keeping it for yourself they should be ok.

The workshops down here are the same.

These guys will come out to you and fix your steering wheel http://www.gtglass.com.au/

You can try and do it yourself if you can get a hold of the glue injection kit but it will probably look like shit if you don't use the right needle.

i took the code of practice down to the mechanic and showed him, he was still arguing about it, and he said he still BELIEVES its not road legal. we had a debate for a little while and he is asking a mate of his tonight about it, and if he says its ok, he will tick it off.

WTF is that about??

I believe i will talk him into ticking it off as legal

i think thats f$ck all to fix considering your selling, how hard is it to change a light bulb, replace or glue inject your steering wheel and extend your exhuast. if your not willing to do these things then sell it without a rwc.

and dont go in and say you just bought the car if your selling it, thats the reason why people are losing there licenses to do rwc. because you sell it to someone who then gets defected by dot, and they say well it passed a rwc, then ol joe blob down the road who was tryin to help you out, gets fingered in the bum.

for me, its good to know someone who does help you out when you have just bought a car. dont want some f@cktard ruining for everyone, coz he couldnt be bothered replacing a light bulb, fixing his steering wheel, and lengthening his exhaust.

:D

although he didnt pick the suspension or drop boxes or lift or tray lift :D

even though he turned a blind eye or missed the drop boxes, cab lift, suspension lift, you can still whinge about just having to extend the exhaust. for his sake i hope he doesnt pass it, or anyone else.

Mate

if it was illegal i wouldnt have a problem in fixing it. tell my why I should spent the cash on putting a new exhaust on the car when it is perfectly legal as it is?
the bulb and the steering wheel im not arguing about

if it was illegal i wouldnt have a problem fixing it, so dropboxes are off, suspension lift is out, body lift is out, if that is the case i apologise.
