haha....heard that before......'i'll only put these larger tyres on when i go offroad'.....etc....etc.....spacers are crap and lead to other problems.

yeah

yeah but the amount of times they have saved my ass from having to straighten my roof. one set of wheel bearings so far is worth it

seen it happen at a stock car race once prety ugly she was walking to get a ice cream and got a wheel in the back ,offset wheels be better , i run 8inch with 33,13.5

wider diffs for the tyre you want to run = less offset and no spacers....everyone is happy

stick a 9inch under it

Just lock this thread already  everyone knows where this is going, just like all the other threads about wheel spacers.

what are the pros and cons of spacers?

have a 75 which i am told is narrower than 60 or 80, a bit of width is a good thing, i plan on keeping it under 3(2 is preferable) inch of lift, and no body lift, i plan on using a max of 37s in the future, would a set of offset rims(how much offset) be better,

i want a stable rig!!!

sorry for lurking and bringing up an old post, but i thought it would be better than just starting another one

cheers fellas Al

Pros - Make ya rig more stable for sure as it gives ya a wider foot print.

Cons - Puts alot more stress on ya king pin bearings if bolted to the front. Change them once a year and ya should be right.

the 75 is not my daily driver, will predominantly be for off road,

i assume that having wheel spacers and standard off set wheels would only load up the bearings.

if you had rims off set to far would the rim bend??? i would assume a inch off set rim and an inch spacer would probably be better than a 2 inch offset rim or a 2 inch spacer???

or would a slight off set, and fat tyres be enough as with say 37s(at this point assuming that 37s are still 12.5 inch wide like 35s)(also note that at the moment the 75 is standard height and will only running 33s) but i plan to go 35s first then i am thinking that the bug will bite for the 37s

ok so i re read that paragraph and i cant figure out(English was not my strong point in high school, tech was) how to link that to my point, basically 37s giving three inchs of lift and the 2 inch suspension giving a total of 5, would one inch off set rims be enough or should i think of two inch??

i know the rule of thumb was for every inch up, go an inch out, but without swapping diffs that wouldnt be easy. unless 60 series diffs are a straight swap??

Big offsets are the same as spacers, the problem with spacers is the nuts dont bed/bite into the alloy and can come loose, or so i have been told.

So how do alloy wheels stay on????????????? same taper same thread same torque means same hold.

Wheel spacers are realy made for offroad use only and even then you should make sure they are tight everytime you have a wheel off don't just put em on and forget them, wheel it clean it then re check to make sure they are still torqued. The same as every part of your truck realy.

I have 2 inch wheel spacers on my cruiser. No ill effects. My rims were chewing out the boots on the tie rods and I wanted to get the wheels out a bit. It also extended the wheels track which improves stability with spring and body lifts. Look mad as too. :D

so are the spacers worth it for a rig that is basically going to be used in the bush only, yeah driven to and from the bush, but maybe not on the tyres that would be using the spacers, as they might be staying at a mates house, or in the tray as i would rather spend the 20 mins changing tyres than the 100k trip on bitumen on simex. the wear wouldnt be worth it.

I had to put the spacers on or I would have had to change my rims or replace tie rod ends every 100 kms. I didn't really want to replace my rims.

Has anyone got first had experience of a wheel coming off because of spacers? If you do what sort were they. Mine are the you beaut ones. They are Billet Aluminium that bolts to the hub and the wheel bolts to the spacer. Did them up with the torque wrench to 100lb.

Never seen a wheel come off, but i have seen plenty come loose. Would have come off but they were caught in time. My brother runs spacers on his zook, they are checked before each trip. Its not a daily driver though.

Saw a full set of the you beaut ones come loose last weekend. They were installed and torqued to spec, all came loose.

I run 2'' front and 3'' rear for years and never had any problems, but do check them time to time, just like you would your wheel nuts.

I think people are just to lazy to take the wheel off and check the spacer if the nuts are still tight, or its just a case of can't see them so they forget about them.

Its just comes down to maintenance, don't blame the spacer for coming loose if you haven't checked it in a year or not tightened it properly in the first place, it no different to a normal set of wheel nuts.

is lock tight not an option?

I have been in a car which had loose wheel stud nuts they make a fair old noise, it would be hard to miss.

if it is jsut a matter of cheacking them each time thats not so bad, if its going to increase stability and stop me from tipping it would be worth the wheel bearings once a year i think.

My spacers have been on for 6 months and no probs. Its a daily driver. I have been thinking about putting a non permanent locktite on the threads for some extra piece of mind. I haven't got round to checking them yet but no vibrations from the wheels or anything negative to report from them.

I will put the locktite on them next weekend when I install my caster wedges, new shocks and extended sway bar connects. The cruiser will be riding real sweet then. :D

what about using nylocs on the spacers them self? and if they have the cone locating machined into them, why not machine a nyloc down to fit the coned area so it press properly??
