hi steer

hi guys thinking about running hi steer just wondering what you guys are running out tthere weather or not your are bying bolt on kits or making them up yourselfs let me know what you are running and what parts you are using thanks joe.

theres a few kits kicking around - only ones i know of being engineered are snake racing and suzistore's...

I'm running the suzistore one and its really good - the arm is even slightly longer to lighten the steering a bit and its completely bolt on (snake racing kit is too, but its a replacement knuckle and much more work).

I am using the Rocky Road OTT stage 1 kit - steers very nicely now, no bump steer, even without the RTC damper gone.

just had a look at the suzistore histeer. and for that price i would go for the snakeracing one.
i am sure everyone will agree that the snakeracing histeer is the only safest and best way

I don't agree. Just out of principle mainly.
If anyone can show me why the other kits are not safe or suffer catastrophic failures resulting in sheared bolts from brake caliper style mounted hi-steer kits I'd like to see it.
Having been a part of this forum for quite a while I have yet to see proof of one of these style of Hi-steer kits fail. People in the states run these kits all the time usually with ridiculous sized tyres and gearing for zook sized diffs and it doesn't come up often that these kits are not the goods.
Check out past threads for the Merc steering arm high steer. similar principle to the RR OTT kit. Brake caliper mount bolt on style.
I think we are getting a$$ raped in this country with custom steering components.
The snake knuckle is definitely a good piece of kit but at $950 just seems way too out there price wise.

the snake racing knuckle will not allow you to run 'full' hi-steer, but that said there is a fair bit of work in making the tooling for that knuckle and i believe 950 is reasonable considering how few are sold. i've seen more companies try to ar*@ rape people with the double tough axles. the mounting off the caliper bolts is up to the engineer, some will ok it, some won't.

It doesnt just mount to the calliper bracket like the merc arm, it also picks up the 4 king pin bolts -

the rocky road one is tough as fark
I snapped the steering box output shaft between box and pitman when I hit a stump at 40 km no damage to any high steer components.
it uses king pin bolts as well as brake caliper bolts (ie 6 bolts) and is machined from one piece of steel

They also send you a setup design specifically for the amount of lift that you have, not just generic a draglink.

Do they come designed for RHD and is it possible to run full hi steer or does the passenger side arm only have one hole in it ?

Both arms have two holes, so they fit either hand drive, you just need to specify when ordering if buying stage 1 only.
Stage 2 is full hi steer.

if you want to run only half the high steer (ie drag link and one bracket) you order their passenger side mount and drag link.
If you buy the full kit (drag link two brackets and tie bar) it will work you just reverse the drag link
Yes the full kit is set up to run both ways (ie two holes each side)

just found it on the site it aint cheap 1200 bucks. i thought snake racing was expensive. might look into the rocky road stage 2
