hey guys i have a 74 rangie 3.5 with center diff lock , now i dont ever really drive this but i need to now.
The center diff lock is it engaged when the lever is UP or DOWN , i dont know wich as i have never had to use it. At the moment the lever is UP and has been since i bought it I think. The gear box has allways wined but it only clicked to me the other day that it might have center diff lock engaged.
Help please as i need it for this weekend.

Jack up one wheel so it's off the ground and free to spin, doesn't really matter which although you really want one you can see from the driver's seat
Gently try and drive the Rangie away. If the diff lock is in it will try and move, if it's not it'll just sit and spin the lifted wheel, just don't gun it or spin it for too long !

First up i think you have the hi-low lever confused for the difflock, it is a plastic knob just to the right of the gear lever. If your rangie doesnt have this knob then you have one of the few early rangies to have a limited slip centre diff and therefor there is no difflock - a photo would help here. If you do have a vacumm operated centre diff lock (plastic knob) and you have been driving it while it was engaged (knob pulled up) you would know about it as the centre diff would be well and truly shagged by now.
