Plumes of black smoke, down on power (injector?)

Driving along yesterday at 80, when i went to accelerate to 100 nothing happened.

Then looking behind me I could see black smoke choofing out like there's no tomorrow.

Now its a 2.8D, so always been gutless. But never been this gutless and never blown smoke. Am I right to suspect an injector has packed it in?

Is it fairly straight forward to swap injectors over? I have a few spare sets.

Ha mate there's a chance that it could be your injectors if you have a spare set may aswell give it a shot, Also check your air filter might be full of S#@T

Try the air cleaner first.

i also suggest checking your air filter and air intake. I had a similar problem and it was this cause. It is the quickest and easiest thing for you to check and eliminate.

Your all going to love this

Couple of days ago I checked the oil on the dipstick, and decided it would be a good idea to leave the rag tucked in next to the battery for easy access.

It just so happens, the air intake is right near the battery.

Today I was about the get started pulling things apart I went looking for my rag..... and low and behold, it had moved.... into the airbox

Ps, have a look at the piping that comes from behind the head light to the air box, there is quite a large restriction there.

Cheers

The old rag in the engine bay trick!! (maxwell smart voice off)

Did similar myself years ago, had the rag start to burn got to close to the exhaust, I smelled it before I had a serious fire

have seen pics of a rag stuck in intake valves, it was left in a V8 manifold to keep dust out during rebuild, the mechanic bolted the carby on without removing the rag and farked a newly built engine when they started it the first time. DOH!
