i have i mate that has done the rear only and they are any extra 4' long
but i have seen them done much longer then had.
You only need to start with the back
If you do it they work Sh*t lots better.

I just measured my origional shackles, there 5inches long
If i were to make my own they would have to be like 9 inches long
i dunno someone tell me please

you should be able to go as long or as short as you want, are your shakels 5" long centre to centre or end to end? standard shakels are 3.5" long centre to centre.

my shackles are 5' long end to end

The length of the shackle is not the only factor. Like most things on a 4wd, everything relies on or affects something else. For instance if you were to make longer shackles then the shackle hanger that is welded to the chassis should be moved forward. This is so that the shackle angle can be maintained. It's no good having a shackle that sits close to vertical as at droop it may possibly invert. The greater the angle, the softer the effective spring rate of the suspension as the shackle will act upon the spring and try to flatten it out more.

Anyway, longer shackes alone are good for lift (for posers) if the vehicle isn't used for much 4wding or if it is, then the whole package needs to be looked at.

As for the front, the spring hangers needed to be lowered the same amout as the shackle if you wish to maintain factory castor angles which is necessary to maintain good road manners.

Actually Beebee.....Hilux's have a poor castor angle to start with...as in if you do put longer shackles in the front wothout lower the perches you will have improve the cars road manner.
I was talking to Richard at 4x4 Eng and he informed me of this, as I have noticed that my car is better on steering

however much you lengthen them you will get half the lift as you are only raising one end of the spring ie if you extend the shackle 4" you will lift the vehicle 2"

I wouldn't want to go much more than that as lateral forces could start to get a bit scary.

I made mine out of a 3mm U channel to strengthen them and have had no problems over the lat 7 years with them, mind you I lengthen them 2"

mate if there standard length shackles how can they give you 2 1/2" lift ................you might be able to fit 31s now

I think the definition of lift is a drift here (sorry for the rhyme)

He is equating that no shackle at all is 0 lift and any shackle length added off nothing is Lift.

But a 5 inch Shackle aint standard? Maybe 5 inches end to end, but not bolt to bolt.

Measure your shackles again but from eye to eye. This means the centre of one bolt to the centre of the other bolt. This will probably be 3.5 inches. If you want a 2 inch lift, your new shackles will have to be 4 inches longer. That means they'll probably be 7.5 inches eye to eye. The end to end measurement is not very important and doesn't really reflect the effective length of your shackles. Hope that clears it up for you. Cheers.

You could get away with the same length shock maybe, but it will limit travel, as with any suspension lift, things like shocks and brake lines all have to be looked at.

so ur saying i will probally need to extend brake lines

Julian i have a lot more flex in the rear of my hilux than you will get from just extending your shakels and i am still running a stock length rear flexable brake line.I have just moved the top support bracket down a little.It bends fairly easy.
As for shocks do you guys have any Truck wreckers in your area?

only one wrecker, but hes an expensive prick, try to put him down a bit and told me to F off

So thats reminds me i gonna put one of those cross wired capacitors in his shop
