Hi all,
Thought id put the question out to everyone for a little extra advice.
Following a full top end rebuild and having the head shaved and reco'd this past weekend, the hilux is stuggling to start (especially when cold) sometimes needing around 30 seconds of cranking before kicking over.
While cranking there is white smoking coming out of the exhaust, and once it kicks it spits out another big puff of white smoke.
The only things i didnt replace duting the rebuild following a busted head gasket were the glow plugs and the internal turbo seals. The turbo seals are leaky as i do have oil on the intake manifold side of the turbo.
Advice please??
Personal thoughts - Could this be my glow plugs not warming the chambers enough and the white smoke explained by unburnt fuel. Or am i getting turbo oil into the block as a result of faulty seals?

are you sure its the turbo
i thought mine was gone but found out the breather was not big enough to accomidate the extra blow by from the rings slowly wearing

nope, not sure its the turbo. Spoke to a turbo specialists who said it was just faulty glow plugs. So i assumed that it might be worth while replacing the oil seal because i have oil from the turbo showing up in the intake manifold. Is that normal?
Whats the go with the blow by and breather? i know my rings are a little worn, i checked them out over the weekend whilst i had the head being tested. What did u do to fix the problem? my turbo spools great and works fine, just a little worried about the oil getting through.

went from a 6mm breather on the tapet cover to a 19mm one

yes i got told the same and this was how to fix it
i read a thread on here about a guy who blew up a 1HDT due to the front seal on a turbo leaking oil into the inlet.
because a diesel can run on straight oil (if its hot enough i think) he was unable to shut it off and it redlined to its death
i had never heard of it happening before, but something to definately be weary of...

Yeah mate, that happen about 2 days after i did the exact same thing.
Luckily i managed to choke the motor before she killed herself and i only warped the head and blew the gasket, but im still pretty concerned about the oil in the intake manifold side of the turbo. i reckon i could be headed for the same thing again if i dont do something about it.

Mine has oil from the engine breather in the intake side of the turbo. If there is no oil before the turbo but oil after then defenitly get it checked. In saying all this i realised my turbo is letting oil out the exhaust side today so looks like ill be doing mine in the near future.
