flywheels

Done a search but can't find any think. I want to now if i can use an old swift flywheel on my g16a with sierra 5 speed.

Use the sierra flywheel with the sierra clutch.

why ? Just have it machined u probably wont notice a difference anyway.
Alternatively compare the size of yours with the one you want to use and see if its possible.

i do not have a sierra flywheel and as i live in tasmania i can not get one from any wreakers over here and as they are not light just througt i might have a stab in the dark as there are swifts every where.

I don't know for sure, but a clue as to whether it's compatible will be the starter motor - there's a couple of different configurations - the nose is shorter on some suzuki's, indicating that the flywheel sits closer into the motor.
I'd suggest you really need to do a side by side comparison. If that's impossible, try and find someone with a swift clutch and a sierra clutch in stock and put them side by side.
Christover - you've had eleventy swift motors in your car - have you ever used a swift flywheel?

I've always used the sierra flywheel,
as none of my swifts had a flywheel fitted.
Sorry can't help, but at a guess they could be close to same.

Well i know for a fact that the swifts use a different starter motor to a sierra.
Because when i went hunting a fair while ago, they were all (15) a different brand, eg like denso or something. Not Mitsubishi (1.3 sierra's use)
So, That could be a gearbox housing thing, Or, it could be a flywheel thing.

i think the side bye side check would be worth while. when i did a gti swap the flywheels and clutch looked to be the same. i used the sierra flywheel and clutch because it was in better condition but if its not available, the swift flywheel would be worth going to the effort to check

the swift flywheel is thinner. the problem you will run into is throw-out on the thrust bearing. your pedal may hit the floor before the throw-out bearing releases the clutch.

I second joe.
I know its different but I've done the GTI conversion and used the seirra one because of that problem. From memory I think the swift also had a recessed clutch face) In any case Im pretty sure you wont get a starter that will mate with your sierra box and engage your flywheel, let alone the clutch issues joe mentioned. But give it a go!!!
FYI Ive got a GTI flywheel kicking round taking up space if for some strange reason anyone wants it??? lol

Bugger. I tossed a sierra flywheel the other day but I may be able to get it back. I only live 20 mins from you. I bought a newie (from suziestore) as mine had a few worn teeth. It still worked tho. At least it would do for a comparison. Will see if i can hunt it down.

If The teeth are only worn/damaged on one side of the outer ring (this happened to me when my starter motor jammed on) you can actually just reverse the ring, Heat it up with a oxy and it will drop off just try not to get to much heat in the flywheel. I did mine about 4years ago and haven't had a problem since.

Yeah, that was the case. It was only one little patch, 10 or 12 teeth, and occasionally the starter would grind instead of turning the flywheel. I found out after I bought the new one that the ring gear was only press fitted on!

Found said flywheel. After an exhaustive search of our (privavte) tip, it turned up in the shed! PM me with an address and preferable time of day and I'll drop it off!
