Wheel Bearings

I was considering re-packing the outer wheel bearings in the Frontera (front ones) as it is something that hasn't been done in a while..more than likely NEVER and was wondering if it is an easy job to do.
I have done them previously in the Commodore, but unsure if it as simple as a street car as it has the locking sensors etc.
Anyone familiar with re-packing electonic locking front hubs, please feel free to give advice.

Fronteras have a Vac operated axle disconect which operates on the diff end of the drive shaft. Wheel brgs are fairly simple to remove and replace...

funny you should mention this. I repacked and tightened my front wheel bearings on my Frontera this weekend. They had some bad play. Actually i was trying to eliminate a clunking sound that has just started when I corner a low speed, left or right over small bumbs. Sounds like its under the left side somewhere ;) Thought it may have been this but wasn't.

As for the front bearings. Easy. Just jack and remove the front wheel. Using an Allen key with a little force remove the bolts holding the dust cap and locking sleeve. Then remove the ring clip off the axle. Then wiping the grease off the inside you will notice a large ring washer with many holes. In three of these holes you will notice philips head screws securing it. Use the right screw driver here! They are soft. In fact tap the screw driver with a hammer to shock loosen the screw before trying. This helps. With them out, just prise the washer out. Lastly, using a screw driver in a tool hole, not a thread hole, spin the bearing plate anti clockwise till it comes out. Bearing will be behind this and follows out easily. Clean out the old grease and repack with a good high temp bearing grease. Then the reverse to put it together. When screwing the bearing plate back in, take it up till it's firm. Put the wheel on with a couple of nuts and spin and rock in and out to see if there is play. You don't want any, but you don't want the bearing over tightened. When that is right, with the wheel off, you need to replace the lock washer that has the holes. Place it in and see if the three screw holes line up with any in the plate. If not remove and rotate the plate 180 deg and it will move the holes slightly. May have to move the bearing plate a fraction as well to aline. Insert the three screws and the rest and your done. Hi all
Has anybody been able to source the hub nut "special tool"? I finally tracked a correct one down, here in Oz and in the states. The guy here looked up the price and it was $135, and he agreed i would be better off ording it online. Before i rush out and order one has anyobe found one locally cheaper?
