Mod plate for dual cab

Hi All,

I have plans to convert my GQ wagon into a dual cab. How much have people paid to get the mod plate. Have only spoken to one place so far and they want nearly $400, is this the going rate?

Sounds about right..

How much you paying for the chop?

I plan on doing most of the work myself, I might pay someone to cut and weld the new panel in but am pretty keen to do it myself. There is only one place in Weipa that does it and they want around $9000 for complete job with tray.

I thought $400 sounded a bit rich, I know mates that got mod plates for engine conversions and it's around $100.

$400 sounds cheap for an approval as there's a bit more that can go wrong as far as safty is concerned compared to your average bolt in V8 conversion.
I highly recommend doing a decent job of it too, get a professional to do some work if you need to.
It will pay off when you sell the vehicle too, I got $6k for my 89 4.2 petrol GQ dual cab and it was rough around the edges from 7 years of offroad use, if it had been a wagon it would have been worth only $2k, single cab GQ utes are still selling for $10k, someone could even make money from chopping bargain GQ's into dual cabs I suspect.
Maybe it's worth a drive to Brisbane to see these guys, maybe you gut the interior, drop it to them for a few days and pick it up, I brought my GQ from them originally, it was one of the early ones they did about 8 years ago and was 100% happy with their workmanship.
