Ok this maybe a " what the hell do you wanna do that for" question. but here goes.

Do any one know if any thing came out with or if wheel manufacturers make a wheel that is less offset that a coily one. from what i can tell the coily had te same offset as the vitara ie 25P The standard sierra rim is 10P and i need some thing around 35 P.

How wide a rim you need? Lada Niva rims have some serious positive offset, but aren't very wide.

Kia Sportage i think have a fair bit of positive offset also.

Only for the purpose of mod plating, so a standard 6 inch rim should be enough.

i think he means -25mm offset which is not what he is after. the stock 16" rims on my vitara are +10mm

Exactly, i need "inset" rims, ie positive offset. I can get a wide track axle down within the allowable 50mm limit with the right rims. Any one got any niva rims laying around in there sheds? Or know a wrecker with a niva that doesnt take the rims off and trhowthem in a pile?

Pretty sure Niva rims won't clear the brakes.

they are 15 " rims yes? not sure why they wouldnt fit if sierra ones do?

yeah mate F 100 rims are the go because they have a centered offset

Ive got a narrow track and run 11inch wide rims but they still fit under factory wide track flares

you will find they still have a more negative offset than coily rims.

what about old 1 lire utes or lj's whats the offset on those puppies

They're the same as every sierra - 5p I think, but they're only 4.5" wide.

Niva rims have such massive offset that it's likely the centre will foul the brakes. Might work, might not.

PS stock sierras are designed to clear 14" rims.

now all i have to do is actually find some niva rims to measure and try out. there were 16" in niva rims too i believe. ANY one know where i might be able to find some>???

Factory nivas were all 16X5.5" rims (I think they were 5.5 wide, might have been less)

There were some 15" white 8 spoke rims made with a suitable niva offset, and BWA made 15" alloys in an suitable offset in the 80's.

Many many niva's now have sierra rims on them. They're easy to spot, the tyres hang miles outside the guards.

I would go after market rims, but i dont really want to pay out the cash for rims that will only get put on for the trip to the certifyer, im putting wide track axles under an lj and need to bring the wheel track back on to acceptable width. The wide track axles are so i can go HD axles

We have a clubmember who is looking at the same swap for the same reasons.

Are you sure it's still too wide with vitara rims on the LJ? Vitara rims will make the WT track 60mm narrower overall than with sierra rims.

really?? that much? in QLD we are allowed 50mm track width change. from what i can tell wide tracks are about 100-110mm wider than lj80 diffs. In which case i will be good with vitara rims.

My booboo:

Sierra 15' x 5.5" 10P
Vitara 15" x 5.5" 25P

So that's 30mm overall. I think I'd still try getting it passed like that.

However, as you've done a diff swap, surely you're allowed the stock track width of the new diffs - i.e you're not increasing the track width of the new diffs over their standard specification?

Still, (here's some more probably wildly inaccurate information ) I think there's only 80-85mm difference in WMS width WT to NT (the bible puts it at 3", or 75mm) , so you might still sneak the 50mm through on Vit diffs assuming LJ isn't much narrower than NT (and I don't htink it is)

BTW I checked out a Asia Rocksta at uni the other day, they look about the same offset as early Vitara/Coily, so probably no good.

I have some Kia Sportage alloys. They have huge backspacing (must be 45p or more) but need machining to clear the hub, and then I'm not 100% sure they'll clear the tie rod.

I bought them when I was planning to go 4" overwidth, but other plans ended up meaning that was a bad idea.

Steve, any chance i can get an exact measurement on your kia wheels? i have just spoken to the guy from Lada spare and he says they are exactly the same offset.

Nope, unfortunately they're packed well away under a huge pile of other stuff, on top of some massive shelves. sorry, It's too hard to contemplate.

You don't want them anyway. There's $$$$$$$$$ in machining before there even close to fitting.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are the same as Lada, but the kia wheels will clear the brakes as they are alloys so don't have a funny centre shape or drop well.

No probs, wouldnt ask you to go through all that, I am just after an offset measurement so i can figure out if it is viable.
