Ok, so I've had a leaking PS box for a while and finally found my spare on the weekend.
The spare had all the hoses/pipes cut straight off the donor vehicle and has been sitting in a bag in a box for the last 5 years. It had quiet a bit of PS fluid still in it when i pulled it out of the bag.
Is there anything I need to know before swapping in the spare? And how do I go about bleeding the system?

Make sure all seals have not dried out & cracked otherwise this one will leak worse than the one your taking out.
Installation is just a reverse of removing the old unit.
When it is installed and all hoses connected, fill the PS reservoir to the top. Start the engine and watch the fluid level. As the level drops, fill accordingly until fluid is no longer dropping. Once this is done slowly turn the steering left to right keeping an eye on the fluid level. This may take several minutes to bleed all the air from the system. It is a good idea to have the wheels off the ground for the above process as it doesn't load the box as much.
When the steering feels uniformly weighted all through its arc and the fluid level remains constant then it is done.
Check & top up fluid if required. Crack open a tin & pat yourself on the back.
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Micko

Some boxes (hilux) have a bleeder screw on them which will speed up the process, but the haynes manual just basically says it's done the way Mick77 described.

If it foams up, turn off and leave for 1/2 an hour and redo.
