Was wondering why this isnt a more common engine transplant for those wanting more power in a hilux
Got a mate with one in his lux it pulls 159kw from rear wheels ... non turbo and just a bit of head work... these motors are simple 2 get decent power
This is a standard 2.7 hilux with a turbo. This car was the winner of the 4cyl blown dyno shootout at Powercruise on Sunday 30 August 2008:

ive got one in my 93 hilux, done the swap in a weekend from diesel and it pokes along well.. on 31;s it goes good, on the simex it goes just as good. Looking into turbo'in mine, reliable horsepower though not dyno queen as shown above. These motors dont last standard with that much horsies forced to them. Goes better that a car thats ment to have it in it, must be the gearbox ratios that are mildly different to the newer ones, and diffs. Tough motor though, mine gets a hiding and never misses a beat...
Cheers, Chris

Yeah im not talking turboing like the link shows for wheeling....but you can def get a realy reliable strong powerful motor very easily out of these motors

Done a conversion into my 93 4runner using one of these, goes craploads better than the 22R
Its currently running dual fuel with an impco system, but am getting gas research carby fitted in a couple of weeks, still running dual fuel, but am getting it remapped for both using a Haltech Interceptor ecu. Will let you know how it goes. Only mod so far is 2.5in mandrel bent exhaust.

Can the 3RZ engines be mounted to the R series boxs?
Or only the G series.

They are becoming more and more popular, BeeBee and 83Lux both run this motor in their comp hiluxes.
Bubs is a fan and i love the way mine drives stock! can;t wait to throw some coin at this one.

heres a quote from there boosted set up 3rz "we have seen over 1,000 HP to the wheels in numerous applications!! " can get a lil bit of power from them lol

1000hp, is coming out of the u.s with epoxy filled blocks etc, so that is bullshit as far as road/offroad 4x4ing is concerned. the most i've seen/heard of is 750odd rwhp, coming out of brisbane, but it is drysumped with dry ice cooling etc etc etc etc......
a stock motor is capable of 500-600hp if the money is spent in tuning and bolt on parts.....
but not all will make that, ive seen over half a dozen motors that have been turbo'd and the same number 2 rod has broken in the same spot everytime.
I wouldnt turbo one without a built bottom end, or running low boost with lowish ignition advance.
revs will kill the 3rz with boost / extra stress.
the 3rz bolts stock to g series box's, and will bolt to the r151 box with a bellhousing......
Mine made 250rwhp on 12psi with stock injectors and at 4600rpm, but alot of ignition advance which killed the motor....tuning is the key to survival with any motor with high compression.
There a big 4 cylinder, the same bore and stroke as a 308, in the vicinity of 3inch square.
They are not a big import motor therefore they arent as cheap as the other usual suspects.
Their bigger than a sr20 in the U.S, more aftermarket forged parts than you can poke a stick at.

Read somewhere that current Hiluxs with vvti 2.7 motors run the r series.

Was thinking the prado with the 2.7 might run the R series box?

The current 2.7s arent 3rz's. and need adaptors, marlins makes an adaptor for the r154
http://www.marlincrawler.com/transmissi ... ellhousing
The w58 out of the earlier supras are the easiest option and are plenty strong enough, also are a straight bolt on to the block.
To mount to the g series you need a 2wd 3rz bellhousing.
2TR-FE manual bellhousing will join a r151 to a 3rz also.

Was talking about the older 90 series prados.
How do the W58 gearbox fit, arn't they 2wd?
