just blow your muffler
is it the 6cyl petrol?
just get a 2.5inch pipe and ask your exhaust place to get you a beefy sound.

increase compression to around 13 -1, put in a huge cam, around 700thou lift, solid roller of course, a well done set of heads, and a victor style manifold, build the rest of the car to suit, and it should sound good

hahaha, that would be the best note.
perhaps a big block with open headers and a big ass blower. thats if you like your eardrums bleeding.

anything is possiable with $$$$$, and after being at the Easternats I was amazed at the zorst notes some of these guys had achived from realitvily small motors..... a couple even sounded better than most of the V8s !!!
Seriously tho, look at a larger pipe and by that I mean a mimimum of 2.5", a set of extractors will also help in a small way too. The muffler side of things is all a $$$ question tho, ASK the zorst place what they fit as a "basic" muffler for a good note, they generally have a mufler that is good sound wise and fair on the wallet at the same time. However once you step into the "up market" mufflers the $$$$ get a hard time but the quality of the muffler is also increased aswell.
For example, I ran twin 2.5inch "Walker Turbos" on a 350 chev with 2.5 inch stainless pipes, the note was AWSOME and just met the DB meter, the muflers lasted 4 years before one split along the seam and the 2 were replaced with a "supercheap" alternative, they lasted 2 years and didnt ever sound as good......... methonol tends to do that !!!
I've still got the walker turbos and will be fitting them to the Patrol later this year, just got to weld up the split seam and get another length of 2.5" stainless.

dont get one of those crappy rice tips. just get a 2.5 inch exhaust with the muffler the shop suggests. 2.5inch will make it sound beasty.

Also, once you get the exhaust done, make up a little silencer to put on the end of it so that if you ever need the car to be quiet - you can make it happen. i.e. when sneaking home from a late night drive and not wanting to wake the mrs

there are some mufflers called WARLOCKS that have the option of undoing wing nuts and exhaust becomes straight through or button it up and diverts through silencer...
Quality mufflers for v8's in my opinion are Edelbrocks, Hooker Aeromax (best value hiperformance) and Borla (for lotto wins)
