Hey,

Ok i have finally got the transmission out of the back of the patrol and under the car, and have all the bolts done up on the transmision to the clutch/back of the engine, However this has brought me to a little snag... The 4 speed that was in it has dropped and was supplied with a 5 however the 5 speed mounts are not lineing up.. :bad-words:

We have an idea of moving the peices that the mounts are meant to bolt on back a bit but dont really want to resort to that, can any one tell me why this ha shappened and what would your soulution be?

Chris

5 speed box is longer. The 5tg hear section was an addon between box and transfer. at a guess id say your mounts are out by that much.

I can rustle up a pair of 5peed diesel mounts if needed. On the floor in my shed somewhere

Holy oversight batman. Am I missing something... did you just think a 5spd would fit where the 4sp was? Or do you mean it originally had a 4sp, was converted to 5 and now you're putting in a new 5sp?

As stated, the 5sp is longer between the mounts and the bellhousing than the 4sp. Either the mounts on the chassis rails have to move back, or you have to make braces between the chassis mount points and the gearbox mount points to fit. Of course, you could get a shorter engine like a 350 Chev and just make new engine mounts instead

Oh... have you checked how the shifters are going to come up into the cabin? That's different to the 4sp too...

Yeah first time owning a 3.3 TD Patrol so i didnt know what to expect acctually the mounts are out by what 10 CM?? give or take, i have no idea how i am going to fix this but yeah was a pain to get the Tranny on the jack because the added Transfer case and 5th gear on the back.

How ever no i have not yet found a way i will be doing that, i think some cutting will be happening!!

YIEKS

better check where the shifters come out of the box while you've got it out! you may be right but there was two top covers, one with the shifter at the front of the box and one at the centre - for petrol and diesel engines.
If both your boxes have the same shifter location you'll be right as the 130mm extension housing(for 5th) is behind the shifters and you aren't changing the front bit.

Also pays to weld up a frame to sit the box on the jack so it doesn't move around - use a nice big trolley jack and pull out the plate and make the frame to fit in the hole.

Yeah, Well thats the thing, we dont really want to weld, (WE ALL KNOW WHAT THE RTA IS LIKE IN NSW WHEN IT COMES TO WELDING A CHASIS!!).

Hmm, Thats got me a little, I have no seen the old 4 speed as it came without a tranny in it. the 5 speed was in the back and was a presumably, throw it in and away ya go.

WRONG....(SORRY MUM) :bad-words: :bad-words: :bad-words:

Anyway, i have thrown the 100 dollar mounts from the wreackers on but have no bolted them as of yet to the chasis, as i am still yet to find a way of doing that, we have had thoughts of adding extra to the mount to make the mount on the chasis longer, once again YIEKS!!!!

I will have to post up some piccs and show u guys.

Anyway thanks all and any help is very much appreciated.

The 5 speed box is 100mm longer than the 4 speed due to the 5th gear exttension cover. As i remember you can bolt up the passenger side using the 5 speed mounts from a SD33 n/a shorty but you will need to fabricate the drivers side mount to suit.Basically welding on a plate that moves the bolt holes back by between 50-100mm.Use the 5 speed cable too as the 5 speed cable is that 100mm longer.

Don't weld the chassis, just a plate onto the mount.you should have no problems with the shifters.Only other problem you may have is 4sp usually out of MQ=square connectors for 4wd/rev switches,MK has round connectors-just change the switches.
