wats the go with the air bags? can you disconnect them or have to have a special bar for them? must be a way around it as you see a few with nice bars?

how much for a air bag compatible bar??

looking at buying a 97 disco on gas, 180 k km on it, v8 auto, looks pretty good, will have a look at it tomorrow, he wants 7900... might try get it for 7000,.

its primary use will be getting to work and fire wood, and also a tourer for a few trips every couple of months....

any things to look for when checkin them out?
cheers

You should have an air-bag compatible bar to be "legal". But then your air-bags need to be checked at that age too.

Mines 97 and I've yet to get my air-bags checked. I dont want to fork out the $1700 arb wnat for an airbag compatible winch bar either.

I assume you will be towing a trailer for the firewood, you will only fit kindling in the back of a D1

but seriously, dont disconnect the airbags, spend the dosh and get a proper air bag compatible bar, it might save your life! insurance will wipe ya and try to get a second hand one and save some dosh.

good luck

2nd hand Airbag Bars go for around $800 from a wrecker, try http://www.triumphroverspares.com.au

As for $7900 for a '97 V8, that is probably too much. I bought a '97 Tdi for $6500 6 months ago, it had similar mileage. I looked at a lot of V8s, I wouldn't pay more than $5000 now

As for the Airbags, Land Rover extended their inspection time from 10 to 20 Years, so no need to worry yet.

Crap  I didnt think the value of discos had gone that low!! I kept up comprehensive insurance on this year but its got a value with the insurer of $10000. I dont think I'll bother (apart from 3rd party) next year if I can buy a replacement for only $5000.

I agree with Lucy, it would have to be a absolute stunner for that price.

I sold my 98 D1, V8 auto with 155K on the clock, pristine condition with new suspension, body lift, TJM air bag bar, new winch, lightforce spotties, snorkel, UHF (and more stuff I forget) for only $8500 about 6 months ago. It cost me $6500 for the truck and about $6k worth of add on bits.

If you are looking at a stocker V8 of mid to late 90's vintage, wouldnt expect that you would pay more than 5 or 6 grand for one in very good nic.

My first Disco, quite a few years ago, was a 300Tdi Auto, averaged 10.7L/100km over 20k km. The current 300Tdi is a manual, so far averaging 9.5L/100km over 6k km.

My 97 v8 d1 is insured for $18900 it only has gas, lift, lra flares and 35's.
Everytime i added something the sum insured went up by every dollar i spent.
Even got the full price of the gas fitment added on, and the 2k rebate
Give AAMI a buzz
As for fuel consumption well thats another story, too scared to add it up.
But with 8 cylinders, standard gearing, gas tuned to go as good as petrol (by SKAZA'S automotive) and 35's

What it is insured for, and what you would get for it if you sold it are totally different! There is no way on earth you would get those dollars if you tried to sell it. Have a look in the markets here on outers.
