can i cut a leaf spring???

just wondering guys if i can cut the eyes of a mian leaf spring to add it to my pack cause i did ruf and lost the military wrap so now im down to a 3 leaf pack and have lost some hieght so want to add another leaf back in...
or, can i redrill a new hole in the military wrap so i can fit that back in. cheers guys.

need a quick reply on this if i could guys cheers.

drilling spring steel can be done but it's not reccomended for what you wanna do. You can cut the eyes off though but best to do it in a guillotine though as heat can make the spring steel brittle. Alternatively use 1mm cutting discs on a grinder and keep water running over the cut and cut and It will be fine.

it would be able to cut it no problems, but it would be safer to have the leaf in a vice and trim it with the grinder.

Where he is cutting it will not be an issue.
Water to cool a cut with an angle grinder could easily be an issue that may well be life threating and not something I would recommend unless your tools are specifically designed for this type of use.

In general I try to keep water and mains powered tools as well seperated as I can.

Yeah I thought of that, in my head I was thinking minimal water, I never used water when I cut mine with 1mm disk but I was using the spring in a different application and no load is anywhere near the cut.
