got a d21 2WD with z24 in it wondering if there are any straight up bolt on engine conversions that i can do, ie other nissan motors, im after a v6 for better economy on freeway, maybe non turbo skyline or similar. the old 4 revs too high over 110km/h an chews over 15lt/100k.

im pretty sure that a vg30 out of a terrano will bolt up but you will need to replace gbox or tranfer case and loom and then there will be all the little things. ie radiator hoses maybe differant, cert

Hhhhhmmm. '86 is getting a bit old in the tooth...are you open to another car, or is there a particular reason you want to fix up the old one?

XG is the same spec as an ED, except with the old XF look. Good, cheap and reliable. Almost bought one myself not long ago. Can get them going well with a few cheap mods too.

Ford's are piece of shit, i crashed mine an am waiting for a insurance payout, got a 88 d21 just re-sprayed no rust blown engine, was just gonna put my z24 in it but its got 460,000 on it, still goes strong but if i get few grand for insurance thought may as well put a better engine in it. Just want an easy swap an better highway economy. New one has a td25 in it but blows blue smoke an has a knock.

So Ford's are a bad car because you crashed yours?
If you're after ideas, you might be better off trolling through the minitruck forums.

No fords are bad cause the are as fuel economical as my landcruiser and as reliable as a tv from golo. Plus im not after that type of ute.
Wanting to stay with the nissan cause its 23 years old, done well over 400k on same engine with no big issues, and the only way you could kill it was to crash it. minitruck forum might be an idea, cheers.

I disagree that falcons are unreliable, however this is not the place to go on about it.
I was reading up on a few VG30DET conversions not that long ago on an aussie minitruck forum, the only real dramas they had were with the exhaust. Keeping in mind that they were going from a VG30 to a VG30DET - so no huge differences.
Another cheap option might be just a VG30 (N/A). I have seen two complete 300's go through Pick-a-Part in the last 3 months.

My mate did one of these conversions in a 4x4 Navara tray. Very happy with it, and it goes pretty well too. Diesel=economy.
