Landcruiser 80series, disk brake conversion

Hi all,

i just got a 1991 cruiser (80series) and am started to get it ready for my trip around WA/NT.

Got a few things i need to get done, with replacing this and that, upgrades etc.

first thing i need to do is the brakes, Front ones are fine. already disks just need to replace the rotors and pads,But the back brakes are drums, i dont have anything against drums but if its a easy to get them converted to disks and isnt to pricey i would like to go with that option.

so can someone point me in the rite direction please.

is it easy to do myself? if so is there a kit i can buy?

if its a bit more technical/specialty can some one reccomend a place wich they have delt with?

Depending on your rear housing, they may just b olt on, however you would need to change your master cylinder/booster, and there may be some difference in the brake line size aswell.

Best bit would be to go a wrecker, grab the whole rear housing with the brakes already on, and also the master/booster to suit and swap them in, about the only hard thing is bleeding the brakes correctly afterwards.

To compliment the whole package i would try and find the bigger front calipers as found on 93 onwards models, fit DBA slotted rotors all round, braided stainless lines, bendix 4wd pads, and use only DOT3 fluid :D

Just buy the whole rear diff and slot it in. You may not need to upgrade the master cylinder (depending)

You should change the master cyl. I think drums hold residual line pressure but discs don't.Could be the other way round-too long ago I played with modifying.Either way the m/cyl is different.
