Which Alt is best for replacement

chasing new alt....battery drawing3.47amps at rest,so alt must be on last legs.Which in turn killed my last battery.Its on my TD4.2 93 patrol tray back.Which is the best option to replace alt with.Thanks in advance.

First off try disconnecting the alternator then measure how much current is being drawn from the battery. This will tell you if it is the alternator, or some other parasitic draw from the vehicle.

If you work out that it is the alternator, by all means get it seen to.

If it is some sort of parasitic load from the body then try pulling the fuses one by one to work out what is causing the current draw.

Thanks for that mate will give it a go,had racq look at it and he told me alt was on way out after inital test between pos of batt and pos lead(not connected).Have to look at it further before sorceing new/second hand alt.
