Antenna question

just wondering if its possible to use a UHF style antenna for normal radio, instead of the standard electric one. its gettin destroyed by trees cuz i keep forgeting to put it down.
its on a GU ute but i dnt think that will make much diff

I wouldn't bother.
I invested in a good radio antenna a few weeks back (cause cd's shit me). I got it from supercheap, its an Aerpro unit, black, spring base, three-sleeve telescopic. Works a charm - i dont get ANY signal breakup between home and work, and i can pick up stations i've never even heard of before.
When i go bush i collapse it down to the shortest pole and it takes all sorts of hits from the scrub with no dramas.
Gold 104.3 all the way baby!
Forgot, mine is mounted on the bullbar - i dont have a UHF (got a good 5w handheld!).

Coxy321, Can you post some info (part # if you have it) and a pic of the aerial you purchased?
I am looking for an aerial and this sounds like it will suit my needs.

Its probably one of the best "mods", if you will, that i've done to the patrol - only due to the big km's i do.

You could aslo consider an on glass am / FM antenna. Th are easy to install and involve rnning a pice of ire along the top of your windsceen (interior), plus running a cable to your radioi. They are not as good as the standard am/fm antennas but work ok,

Thats what i had - a glass mounted amplified antenna. It was great until i had to replace the windscreen, which meant the antenna also had to be replaced. On inspection i found that an exact replacement for mine was $150
