oil leaks

After going away for the w/e, the wippersnipper engine in the front of the 4skinner dropped a good 3L of oil in the maccas carpark on the way home. Between sh!tting myself, and getting some more oil to put in... i had alook at it looks like its coming from the vacumm hoses where they enter the block i presume. Thats the best case scenario i figure, if nots it would be a gasket between the sump and block... and i cant afford any bottom end work!

Is there any other common oil leaks on these engines (2L)? Its done 240,000, blows very little smoke, and had an oil change 2,000 ago.

hrm there are no vacuum hoses on a 2L motor so you need to be a bit more specific about where you think the oil might be coming from. they are usually a pretty good motor for leaks, sometimes they go at the rear main seal, sump gasket, at the front around the oil pump, and i the rocker cover gasket is damaged or the 3 nuts holding the rocker cover on get loose, it can lose a fair bit of oil out of the top.

degrease the whole motor thoroughly then drive it and check regularly for where the oil is coming from.

Sounds like the drain hose from the vacuum pump has a split or has come off the fitting, this hose runs from the back of the alternator to the block. This hose does drain back into the block, it is low pressure so it won't spray or shoot out at engine oil pressures. Very simple thing to fix, you can get a hose made up from a local hose shop.

Another problem these motors can have is when you have a lot of blowby (lotsa k's on the motor) they can suck oil up via the hose on the rocker cover and suck this oil into the intake manifold, heaps of fun when this happens...

Oil pump body gasket on the front of the block?

The oil filter body that bolts to the side?

The oil filter itself?

gallery plugs leaking?

List goes on, degrease it and have a much better look! :)
It will prolly be something simple anyway.

Its definantly coming from the back of the altenator and the oil line back into the block. Had a look everywhere else and nowhere else is draining oil. It has also stopped leaking now that its home. It has done it before after a long stint on the freeway on a hot day... however not to such an extent.

Will take it for an engine bay clean today and have a nother look.
Thanks for your help.
