G'day all,

Had a problem with my brakes today, was driving along normally and went to slow down and found the brake pedal went along way down (further than usual), it then got worse, infact I would have my foot down almost to the floor and the brakes wouldn't lock up just slow down gradually. So I stopped and checked for leaks etc and found nothing. tried them again and they worked fine again.

It did this a second time (about 1 hour driving time later)

The only thing I have found is one of the flexy hose's on the passanger side front has some bulges in it (one largish one down near the the swivel end), what would have caused this? the flexy hoses are approximately 12 months old (definetly less than 18 months old) sized caliper?

If you haven't lost any fluid, it's either,
(a) air in the system,
(b) a wheel bearing is totally fawked and allowing the axle/disc to wobble/float, knocking the pistons into the bores.
If this was the case, you would be able to pump the pedal up to a normal height and have a normal pedal.
(c) the hoses are bulging where you have the bubbles, but if this was the case, you wouldn't be able to get a normal pedal height by pumping.

Can't think of anything else at the moment.

When was the last time you changed the brake fluid? I remember my foot going all the way down to the floor coming down a long steep hill, I boiled the brake fluid. I pitched my tent, gave the RR a break overnight and drove out next day with a normal brake pedal.

About 12 motnhs ago I was told there were a bad batch of flex hoses going around melbourne... It just so happen that exactly the same thing happen to a head mechanic at one of melbournes leading Land Rover joints..... and the guy almost crashed at a set of lights on his way home approx 2 hours after he had fitted the new hoses.... same thing as you hoses bulged to the point it wasn't creating and presure

IMHO i would go back to where you got them from and have a hissy...

I didn't get the flexy hose's the PO did. The PO is a good friend of mine, so i will get the info from him. I think he got the lines from melbourne too

So replace the hose's should fix the problem??

The bulges are there when my foot is off the brake, not sure if they get bigger when foot is on, will check tomorrow

Also how fast should the brake pedal return to normal position when you take your foot of the brake (I'm just interested)?

apperently there were problems with the type of rubber used.... if the hoses bulge then you wuoldn't get any brake presure and i guess if you kept pumping the brakes then the hose would ballon and maybe pop... then you would go bang!!

with the bolge in the brake line i would dear say that yr brake fluid level has droped due to the increase in the brake lines so i would keep an eye on the fluid level also so you don't get air in the lines also.. IMHO change the farkers and be done with it

I had similar prob, but ended up being the valve wasnt working (found in several pieces) in the front of the master cylinder. Just another suggestion.

If hoses are bulging they are faulty. Change them before you kill someone, maybe you.
