Tyre Topics

Despite the work that members have put into Bibles & FAQs we still get lots of people asking for opinions on specific tyres. And, despite boggedyzillion posts, we still haven't reached any consensus on what's best.

At the moment, if you want opinions on a particular tyre you need to search for it, then wade through all the threads to find the references you're after.

So I'd like to try the concept of "Tyre Topics" - one topic per tyre, where members post their opinions for and against that tyre, and that tyre only.

I suggest some simple rules - such as first hand accounts (only personal experience - e.g. "I saw" instead of "mate told me his mate had..." or "I've heard..." type stories). No "they're not as good as XXX" posts (unless evidence is produced) and the usual no flame wars etc.

Since it beats studying, I'll post a few examples - let's see what happens.

If anybody wants to start their own, feel free - although I ask that you include rules in the first post, to try to keep this under control.

Thank you Steve. :)

I was thinking about other tyres to create topics for, but the list is too big for me! The only other 4wd tyre I've owned is the S/T, so I might create one of those later - if somebody else doesn't do it first.

Then there's tyres like Claws, 'pedes, MTZ & ATZ, Procomps, Toyos, Silverstones, Maxxis and all the ATs which we very rarely talk about...

If anybody wants to make their own, they could copy the following & edit as required.

Code: Select all

This Tyre Topic is for members to post about Goodyear Wrangler MT/R. Post your thoughts on grip, noise, wear, airing down, or anything else you consider of interest to other members.

A new version of the MT/R was released in 2009. This topic is for reports on both versions – original and new.

Rules for Tyre Topics:
Tyre Topics are intended to be information sources. Both positive and negative reports are encouraged.

Tyre Topics are NOT for slanging matches. Any posts which don't contain useful information may be deleted.

Please post first hand accounts only - "my tyres" or "I saw" reports. Any "mate said" or "I heard" stories may be deleted.

Comparisons with other tyres are acceptable, if they contain first hand accounts (see above.) "Buy XXX instead" opinions (without first hand stories to back them up) are not.
Well, if we clog Gen Tech with Tyre Topics perhaps Ruff will have no other choice. :D

How to lift a Mav

just to name 1 or 2

i think it should just be a whole section.

we have tech about the vehicles in the specific vehicle sections with bibles and what not, i think there is enough talk about tyres to have a section because they are relevant to all 4x4s

Too many sub sections can be a PITA

True, though with tyres specifically there is probably more discussion than any other make or marque of vehicle or any other topic within Gen Tech. Mind you I'm not the forum owner and I'm not the one making the call, but it would be an excellent resource.
