looking at getting one before easter, but a few people have told me to steer clear of the 2.4's as they blow head gaskets fairly often?

what are some of your guys opinions?

cheers

2.4s are old i wouldnt buy one as a replacement engine, and the 3.0 is not as easy to bolt in, the 3L (2.8) with turbo kit is the money for ease and budget

the 2L is 25odd years old their developing all kinds of problems as they age.

Are you asking this as a replacement engine or to buy the whole vehicle ??

If the whole vehicle, go for a 3.0 litre TD version (1KZ) if budget allows.

If replacing engine a 2.8 (3L) + your existing turbo & manifolds will just bolt up.
If current engine is a 2LT, can use existing fuel pump just increase flow to suit, if a 2LTE will require a manual fuel pump.

Can also bolt in a 3.0 (5L) + all your existing gear, tho will require manual fuel pump as well and maybe a CT26 turbo to suit the bigger engine.
A 3.0 (5LE) can work with all the gear (computers, etc.) from a 2LTE + CT26, tho these are not easily found cheaply.

Just depends on your budget and/or how much you can/will do yourself.
