how hot should the lock and unlock bit of the front hubs get
i don round 80kms at 120 kmh
and they were red hot to touch
i have just done the bearings does this mean there too tight?
both sides are the same
car handles great no noises etc

Sounds like bearings are too tight, or you were really hard on the brakes for a long time!
...i assume you remembered the grease?

they are going to be fairly warm for a little while after putting in new grease as the new grease is sticky and has alot of sheering properties that create friction thus heat.
But if they are "red" hot than its probably a bearing preload issue.

checked the hubs this morning drove to fountain gate and drove fairly hard fast and on brakes just to see if they would get hot but were really cool to touch would that mean the preload is ok??
