Hi fellas
Just after some feedback about what to do next to the rear of my hilux, At the moment i have home made spring packs (ifs rears) with 4 leafs lifted 2in, 65mm lift bocks between diff and spring i have approx 13inches of travel at the moment but its not up to the task or any where near the front(21inches). I want more
Im tossing up wether to get superior shackles or simaler or go for 1/4 elliptic spring ?
Any advise would be helpfull

to get more flex in the rear you need taller, softer springs, and you will need an anti-wrap bar to compensate for the softness of the springs.
do everything you can to get rid of the lift blocks, those things are pure evil.

taller springs?? i cant see how this helps flex?
just go longer springs an try gettin your shackle on a bit more of an angle an bit longer shackle to
and an track bar would aslo help
im sure hypolux will be able to help u out more as his rig flexes nice
i havent heard any bad things about lift blocks (if you have a track bar) is should be ok
if you have a look at his members thread u can see pics

2" blocks and 2" springs are the way to go, if you have 4" springs the leafs have to be very strong to hold up the weight due to the bend raduis, and will flex like shit.
Try shortening the 3rd lowest spring by around 3-4 inches at each end and tapering the ends of every leaf, remove the bolts in the spring clips for extra downwards travel.
Also make sure your shocks/brakelines/tailshaft etc can handle the extra travel, but hopefully you have changed that already
Dont fit a torque rod unless you are having dramas with axle tramp. Unless you have a really powerful engine you probably wont need it.
1/4 eliptic will end up being an engineering nightmare, if you really need that much flex, consider a coil spring swap.

I'd say since you're already running ifs rears [stock] with 4 leaves, your best bet is to play with your shackle angle, any chance you could take a pic for us of your shackle angle from the side ?? It might be worth cutting off the mount for the shackle and moving it forward a few inches. You may also want to remove your thickest leaf and add at least 2 full length rear upper springs... the softer/larger amount of long springs you have though you're gonna require a track bar. Nothing wrong with that though, it won't effect travel in any way and will improve the way it climbs.

I dont want to alter my springs any more as i now have what i think is the right set up for both flex and carrying 2 quad bikes.
I got bored today and went and put a bogey leaf setup in the rear ,I've gained about 6 inches of travel in the rear thats with standard shackles so tomorrow's job is extended shackles (2 inches).
At the moment it still handles and rides the same but yet to have it off road i'll let u know what it's like once the shackles are done.

You wont ever get a good flexing rear end if you have it set up to carry 2 quads. It's one or the other, or in between.
