need some advice about what engine to run

ok so i am rebuilding the zook at the moment and the plan all along has to have a 1.6l with good gearing to run the 34's and just some nicely worked leaf springs going with the low (cog) and geared approach!

BUT:

now i have been offered a commodore V6 motor for free and am not sure what to do?

pros of V6: 1. way to much power!!
2. EFI
3. just have to love that power
4. alloy block

cons of V6: 1. might be a bit heavy
2. not sure about rego (which the truck has to keep for ascc)
3. i dont think my transfer case and diff's will like it(meaning a full swap of all my running gear)

and i am also thinking that if i change my running gear that i might aswell just change to coil while i am at it?

the thing is that i want to drive rocks and hills and dont want a rig like otis (or the price tag), as we dont have any mud up here!!
but it is a free motor!!

what r other peoples thoughts?

The Vitara 1.6L EFI is a proven formula Camo... I'd be sticking to that.

Benefits:

1. very engineerable
2. power a plenty
3. proven to work
4. advise redily available when fitting
5. all suzuki parts
6. fits on same engine mounts

and probably a lot more benefits too...

get the motor,

then sell it/trade it,

buy a vitara engine (or aJimney unit as an option.....).

Call it done and drive.

I'f it's costing you nothing, then you can afford to use it to your advantage.......

They are shit conversions. Very nose heavy, makes the car very hard to drive. Lots of power will cause major driveline damage. The guys who are using the kit are basically street only guys.

Watched one of the V8 equipped Zooks at Moab and it wasn't very capable. Tends to spin wheels alot, fall over alot, and break things alot.

I'm sure that couldn't all be put down to the motor in the car though grimbo - i.e. suspension, driver, lines, gearing, tyres etc are going to affect how often the car breaks things and / or falls over... not just the engine right?

It was mainly to do with the weird weight shifting of having a huge lump of iron up front. There were other zuks with similar setups, SPOA & 35s but running Vit or Sierra engines which didn't have the problems of stability that the lightning Conversions V8 one did
