Transfer case mounts + lift

Out wheeling today i hear this horrible noise that turnes out was my transfercase dragging on a rut.

I've torn the two drivers side mounts and on closer inspection ive noticed the others on the way out too.

now i want the truck driveable for tuff truck friday so i don't want to do anything too hard to get it back on the road but i don't like the look of the standard mounts (they look like mackay engine mounts).

would there be any problems if i just grabbed a stick of nylon. cut it to length and drilled out the centres, add a couple of mudflap washers and H8 bots and nylocs? this way i would be able to cut them a inch or so higher to lift it up a little bit.

i'm thinking the only problem is it wont have any give and may break something else a little more expensive to fix. but i figure i can modify it later if i see any signs of fatigue in any metal (not that i would notice before i tear my Transfercase appart anyway)

Does anyone else have any easy ideas that will get me on the road for friday?

Cheers Weaves.

Just go to the wreckers and replace them. Although in a couple of weeks I'll have bulletproof mounts for sale from standard to 2" lift.

Will these be solid or rubber to allow for some movement without tearing the bolts out of the t/c?

Cheers

basically how mine is done.

I used 2 shock rubbers and a bolt.

I'd be at least fine for road driving to tufftruck

mine are done, with a bolt, shock rubber and washer on the top then a rubber block with a hole through the centre about an inch thick which sits between the two original mounting surfaces. and a shock rubber and washer underneath.

well i got the machine shop to cut me some nylon blocks and drill them for me this morning, i've got a catologue in front of me to get some rubber to cusion it (but will probably just get shock rubbers now) and i've got the bolts comming from a mate. All up its costed me <$15.00 so far and just have the rubber to get.

i really can't see how this will fail. I'm confident this will hold up. And after talking to the engineer/machinist this morning i'm going to run this set up and see how it goes, if i find it vibrates too much, i'll address the problem then.

thanks for you input guys.

I have never broken any rubber mounts and i do give it a thrashing. I used to scrub suzy's belly on stuff. I have a 2" BL so i lifted the transfer by 2". It makes it higher then the chassis. I have a roctoy ring up there now also! With a bit of BFH'ing and slight cutting of the ring.

A rockring is the obvious direction i want to go with it but giving the lack of time and the fact that it probably doesnt need it in its almost standard form, i'm going to do that later down the track. Probably at the same point as gears.

Im using vitara front diff mount rubers instead of shocks absorber rubbers as they are larger and they have a steel sleave in the centre so you can tighten up the bolts without crushing the rubber.

its all in and running.

i didnt get a chance to pick up any shocky rubbers on my way home as everything was closed so my transfer is in with 60mm high nylon blocks (30mm higher than the standard mount) and for insulation it has a few layers of insertion rubber crudley cut to size to act as a bush.

i will replace the rubbers later on as i just took it for a quick wheel out the back blocks and its just so quiet and so much smoother now. the mounts must have been shagged for for a while.

Grand total for todays efforts including all materials, machining and delivery charges comes to $10.40

thanks for your input guys,

a soft compound polyeruthane, similar to rubber just about 1000 times stronger.
