ok guys i have had a thought for painting me 4wd
i like the look of hammer tone
there isone they call charcoal
wich is basicly gun metal grey
wats ya thoughts on painting a whole truck with it

I did a bull bar, roof rack, rims, snorkel, and some other trim in the charcoal hammer tone.

It looked good imho. But... it did NOT weather well. I would not use it on panels.

I've done a couple of resprays in it on bush bashers and as said above (even with hardener) it's doesn't like the sun. It looses what little gloss it started with and starts to go powdery after a couple of years.

One was a light green which lasted a lot longer then the silver one I did. Silver and greys don't like the sun unless it's cleared. If you have ever had to take pin stripes off a car you will find most stripes come off easy but if theres a silver one it can be a real bitch. Another example is all them VN commadores running around with chalky paint. Thats generally what you will see after a couple of years.

If your planing on keeping the 4wd for a while and want it to hold up i'd suggest you do it in a proper automotive 2 pack.

Mmm, must only be the this colour as my brother & I used the blue hammertone on the inside of the old mans boat about 12 years ago & it still looks ok apart from damage from use. Has not faded at all.

It could also be the brand as we used Motospray which is without a doubt the cheapest dodgiest paint available.

The green one I did ended up going to the wreckers still looking reasonably good. Inside a boat is still going to be protected a fair bit more the a 4wd that sits in the sun all day though.

My trailers only 14 months old and it's already faded and chalky. I just went and looked.

I don't know what brand it is though. People don't generally notice a chalky trailer like they would on a 4wd. If it's only a bushbasher i'd do it but i'd still with a green or a blue rather the a grey or silver which seem go chalky quicker.

yeah may do diff color funny tho i have never seen the hammertone go chalky
but they all have been on trailers and yeah our factory color was a green tho
but it wasnt an autobarn or super cheap autos paint was the good stuff

If you want it to look neat i'd stay away from hammertone then. It doesn't look that great on bigger straight panels.

If you want it to look different and look pretty go to an automotive paint store and have a look at some special effects colours. The only thing is the prep work has to be top notch and you would need a professional painter to do the job as there not for your backyard painter. They are also a bit on the pricy side.

Hammertone is different but it's still cheap sh!t that is not designed for resprays. If you want a little bling and different I wouldn't be looking at this.

yeah i want something diff but dosnt have to be expert i thought hammertone as if ya got dints or scrathes it wouldnt look so bad
and plus ya dun have to have baby bottom smooth undercoat lol

Stocked apollo go to paintmobile on cheltenham rd dandenong. They deal exclusively with car paint.

You could use the hichem rust not.

Its a single pack epoxy based product with a satin finish and high abrasion resistance if applied correctly.

The Viponds Quick Dry Enamel is an enamel paint available in any colour you choose. Can be used on all sorts of surfaces, from timber to metal to paving etc. Has been used on a lot of commercial and industrial equipment as well.

You can get both of those and Bristol Paints in Doveton or Narre Warren (I work for both haha)

I painted an XD Falcon panel van with Galmet hammertone paint using a roller about 16 years ago. Looked good then, and for the next 4 years that I had the car. Would probably do it again if I needed to. Covers up rust really well. Also hides dents, chips etc. I used Gun metal grey metallic.

galmet is a good product but a 2 pak hammer tone is available that is more uv stabilised.

motospray is fine, its all about surface prep and the way you spray, i use motospray when ever i do it, and my paint (on my old car) lasted 3 years (till i sold it that is) and still looked top notch

Motospray is cheap shit. You must have much lower standards then me and obviously have never used a good quality paint if you think thats good.
