12ht injectors

I've tried a search...

I'm getting close to intercooling my 12ht in HJ61 and want to ensure the injection side is ok first. 265,000 on the clock with orginal injectors. I know these things don't rev, but in normal driving, to achieve anything over 2500rpm is an effort....

1. when have ppl changed injectors?
2. why changed injectors? (smoke, ks, mechanic said so etc.)
3. cost?
4. difference made to motor?

I was told that injector life is 150-200k. $100 ea to renew tips.

Thanks,
Duncan.

you should get them tested before just jumping in and getting them rebuilt, any diesel injection shop should be able to test them for you for a small fee. beware of places offering free testing, often they just want to get you in the shop so they can tell you that they need doing.

smoke is probably the best indicator, especially at full throttle. km doesn't tell you much, some people do a lot more engine revs than others for the same km, but at 265,000 chances are high that they will need doing. If your 12H-T has trouble revving past 2500 you may have other problems - injection timing, inlet air or fuel restriction, broke/seized mechanical advance mechanism, turbo issues, or blocked exhaust to name a few.

Thanks for the info DD.

Engine, turbo, exhaust, air inlet are all fine. That's why I'm thinking injectors... I'll check the mechanical advance thingy though.

C'mon 61 owners - what are your experiences with injectors?? Thanks!
